OK, which two companies do you use Doctor, and anyone else please?

For myself, and why it is I'm asking, I think I need to look further than local builders / industrial supplies merchants.

many thanks

Most things can be got from Hafele or Hettich apart from more specialised stuff such as traditional brass hardware and fittings.

Did anyone mention Woodfit? I use them a lot along with Issac Lord and recently Ironmongery direct. All online of course.

The two companies the Doc is referring to would be Hafele and Hettich, German distributors of furniture fittings who both publish huge hardbacked catalogues packed with every imaginable fitting, particularly for kitchens and fitted bedrooms.

I use them both, but increasingly I am sourcing my stuff from LDL. They have a smaller range, but it covers 95% of what I need. Thay have a very nice catalogue and website, and warehouses in Manchester and Bristol.

None of these firms do much in the way of traditional brass fittings though. For these you need someone like Savills in Scarborough. They haven't got a website.

I don't think they've got a fax machine yet.

When dealing with them I always have an image in my mind of clerks in frock coats making entries into ledgers on sloping desks with quills.

Jonny and Brad got them, Hafele and hettich, these are the two I turn to when I want something quickly and they virtually cover everything. From sprung beech slates to electronic locks.....
However like others have mentioned there are other companies which I prefer to use for certain things, I dislike the quality of handles sold by these companies so source from other places.
Hafele and Hettich are trade only by the way, don't try and pretend your trade if you aren't as they send reps round.(having said that Hafele do a small catalogue so you never know)
The third company is Winzer Worth, after being charged £1.64 per drill bit compared with 8p with Hafele I don't use these anymore.
The more you buy with these companies the higher the discount you recieve so its best to concentrate the buying on one or two.

Just ordered some drawer slides and handles from sds.
They have nice stuff (IMO) and they haved no problem with inexpensive export abroad.
Have also bought similar stuff from Isaac Lord.

Another good one to know is Adfix in Hull.

It's a small operation run by a guy called Paul Hazell. He supplies pretty well every type of fitting you can think of, together with all workshop consumables such as glue, abrasives, screws, brads etc at very keen prices.

He is also a Hafele distributor, which is handy if you need the odd item and don't want to pay the Hafele minimum order charge.

I can't recommend him highly enough.

Remember though, he supplies the trade so isn't going to be impressed with an order for a couple of hinges. If that's all you want, go to Screwfix.

.

I have always found Wurth to be good value, But must admit when it comes to modern furniture handles Hafele are the cheapest i can find for the styles i use.
Was this bit of the same quality? With that price difference i would assume so.
I have a nice young lady who comes round to see me every month from Wurth, Their prices are 'adjustable' aswell, Dont ask dont get, And someone who is on sales comission isnt going to give you best deal without asking.

My main fittings and consumeables come from a local company who buy in bulk from Hafele, Its handy for me as i can order the quantity i want and have them delivered free the following week. If something is broken i swap it with no return fee or P&P to send back for replacement.
They also do repairs and price match where possible.
Power tool services, Rackheath Norfolk.

I buy staples from Axminster, They do bulk deals which i find quite very reasonable, Does anyone know anywhere cheaper?
