    Double workshop doors

Yeah that's exactly the stuff I bought, used a lot in aircraft I believe. I didn't find that problem with the magswitch, the main problems I have found are that the riser blocks are a very tight fit to the bolts, and when using the brackets to give vertical pressure you can't set up for much...

    Workshop 16a socket question

Part P is the building regulation which has very little detail, the document you need to refer out to is the 17th edition wiring regulations. Provided you have worked out conductor capacity using the appropriate method (for an insulated wall) I don't see why there would be a problem. I would put...

Router Collets - now SUCCESS! (+ UKW tribute)

Fair enough. As I said, the alternate design with the long slits doesn't on its own guarantee a wide clamping range. But I can confirm that ER collets are suitable for routers and give good grip - Axminster sell a router bit extension using this collet design which I use with success, and some...

Router Collets - now SUCCESS! (+ UKW tribute)

Glad the OP got his problem sorted. I'd like to pick up on a technicality though... This depends on the collet design. I agree that the majority of router collets I have seen are designed to give a good holding force over a very narrow diameter range. Commonly, the collets are made with the...

    Is 9mm MDF 9mm?

You can stack multiple groovers onto a single arbour to achieve your target groove.

    NVR Switch

The plate on the motor and the image of the wires connected up tells me that the brown wire on the motor is live (terminal AZ, "line" on the info plate) and the blue wire is neutral (terminal A, "N" on the plate). The yellow and green wire on the motor is earth - so the motor is all the normal...

    T - track bolts

Another vote for using coach bolts - I don't have the patience that others seem to so I use a grinding wheel, takes seconds. Steve, your method for making T-slots works well I'm sure but sounds a lot more effort than just routing the slot with a cutter. I use a keyhole cutter from Wealden...

Record Power TS250-RS - assembly, set-up and review

Yep, saw is still working well and nothing's broken. The t slot right hand edge (it's not a normal mitre slot) is 170mm from the blade on my saw, although the exact distance depends on the positioning of the cross cut beam.

    Ovolo glazing bar joint

I'm making a set of glazed garage doors, for the mullions (vertical rails) I used the second method that Mike.S described to attach them to the rails. I wrote up making the joints, working out sizes etc here, which includes some pictures of the end of the mullions...

Best Table saw for about £1200

Interesting that you say that. The saw I would have gone for instead would have been the Axi MJ12-1600 - can take a 12" blade, more power, has a scoring unit and a longer stroke on the sliding table. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the space. The Record is more of a minature panel saw...

    Double workshop doors

Following on from my queries about how to make the joints for glazed doors, I thought I'd write up my project to build a pair of double doors to go on the back of my garage workshop. Currently there is a pedestrian door on one side of the back wall and little space around the side of the house...

Best Table saw for about £1200

I personally find the fence reasonably solid, although for other reasons I am planning to replace with a t square fence. The mitre gauge slot fits the supplied gauge fine, and as it's a sliding beam saw the principle is you lock the mitre gauge to the beam then use the sliding action - works...

Best Table saw for about £1200

I have that saw and I'm pleased with it, it's a solid machine. The sliding beam takes some time to set up, but once you have it's a nice saw for bigger cross cut operations as well as ripping. You may have to reassemble the beam to get the max cross cut width, which is just sufficient for a...

Tell me ab out HVLP spraying

I too would be very interested in suggestions for HVLP guns. I'm in a similar position to noddy, looking to spray with my existing compressor (3hp 150ltr). Probably Morrells water based finish, as acid cat looks nasty and not suited to a DIY setup without a professional spray booth. There is a...

Coped mortice and tenons with router

I wondered whether I might have got the height set a bit wrong for the scribing cutter. I think I'm going to modify my order a bit more so that I cut the shorter tenon shoulders and cheeks first, then I have the face of the tenon to set the scribing cutter to. Coley - you haven't seen my hand...

Coped mortice and tenons with router

James, the doors will be glazed at the top. The glazing will be double glazed for noise and heat, the glazing panels will be quite thin probably 16-18mm so quite a small gap between the panes. Something like this: http://longman-gates.co.uk/made-to-measure-coleman-wooden-garage-doors.html I...

Coped mortice and tenons with router

I had a go at test 2 today with much improved results, but still not quite what I was hoping for. The overall frame looks ok, but the joints aren't quite right as you can see below: I believe I am constrained by setting the scribe cutter so that the top is flush with one of the cheeks of...
