    Big Orange Warehouse

I get the impression that that is where most of their trade business comes from. A friend works as an on-call repairs and maintainance sort of person for a Facilities Management company and to quote "I hate going in, but where else can I buy a replacement sink, a door handle and a sheet of OSB...

    Brace, non ratchet

Basically, you won't find everything you want... The square taper bits which are common on augers, spoon bits and various specialist bits, are compatible only with the two jaw chuck's with a pair of 90° v-notches... As common on almost all braces, ever. The hex-shank bits common for power...

    Blast gate location

I've had a lot of contact with the "gate-valve problem" in piping runs for liquids and sludges and the normal solution is simply to mount the valve upside down, so that the slot the gate fits into is at the top.

    High-gloss, hard-wearing finish

I'm seriously impressed at the craftsmanship involved, and the length you're willing to go to in pursuit of perfection; the little table you used as an example is also wonderfully proportioned, with just a whisker of curvature. With regards to filling the grain... Currently experimenting on...

The 2016 hand tool open workshop Macmillan charity weekend.

I'm going to try to get there this year, will be interesting to meet up with people. Is the prospective host OK in light of the Flooding in Market Harbrough?

    Anyone use Howden's?

The act which supplements and expands rights from the 1977, 1979, 1982 & 1999 acts on the and their various amendments, which themselves also made a distinction between consumer and non-consumer purchasers of goods?

    Anyone use Howden's?

Not sure what you're trying to illustrate with that link. The definition of consumer, is exclusive with that of a Trader... Thus by getting people to sign up for an account on the basis that they are a Trader, any contracts for the sales of goods would be treated as standard commercial...

Domino jointer instead of morticer and tenoner?

Chain morticer, jig & pneumatic clamping; no thought required. These are still not fast enough however and CNC chisel mortices are now having an impact in the doors sector. The domino is not the fastest or most accurate method, volume production equipment will always beat it... And I'd expect...

Edwardian Table W.I.P. [Increasingly Image Heavy]

Unexpectedly got an evening in the workshop, so made a little progress. Big chunk of time was used up re-setting the thicknesser bed on the P/T to parallel with the cutters, annoyingly the cutters themselves have been chipped in four of five places, meaning that the finish was poor and still...

Haunched Double Twin Tennon - Mitred Vs Stub

Ended up going with a single 7/16" mortice with haunch, which simplified life somewhat. Custard: Thanks, your question whilst not intended to made me realise that one of the two tenons should be more or less useless as it would simply attach to short grain, and nothing structural, so a single...

Haunched Double Twin Tennon - Mitred Vs Stub

It's following the curve of the top, cut from the solid and meets flush with the outside of the leg, It will vary between 2" thick by the legs to ¾" thick at the thinnest point about ⅓ & ⅔ from the end.

Haunched Double Twin Tennon - Mitred Vs Stub

So I'm looking at starting the legs and aprons for my Table tonight, The stock I'm joining is 2" by 4", so I'm looking at using a double twin haunched tennon, to maximise glue surface, minimise racking, and prevent breakout of the mortice. Previously I've done tables with an L-Shaped...

Please help an ***** out with cutting straight (with pics)

Or a bench hook & tennon saw... Or a shooting board... I'd personally just cut on the bandsaw and use the shooting board to take to the line with a plane. Looks like the blade is moving slightly to one side, so if the tension is correct and the bearings are set close* it's likely down to...

    Eye safety

For Turning (wood and metal), Grinding and some Milling operations, I find the face shields to be by far the best option... Two things learned experientially about using them: Wearing close fitting safety glasses as well is advised. The visor isn't protecting you very well unless you look...

What tool did you buy today?

That's very nice! I'm envious of the tooling especially , I've made some for my No. 4, but it's still smeared in packing grease and wrapped in a tarp waiting for me to save up to heat treat the punch and die.

Edwardian Table W.I.P. [Increasingly Image Heavy]

I'm finally back in the workshop tonight, so will post pics of how far I get. Edit: No, No I'm not, nor am I likely to be for most of the rest of the month :( In the mean time I've been thinking about what mouldings to use on the top itself. I like the little Grecian Ogee 2., but the Cyma...

    Recommend me a riffler.

If I could find just one riffler design that would do all I needed, then Lioger or Auriou would be an option... If I need two or three then I'd be forced to go for the cheaper hand stitched ones from Tiranti or Antique Tools.

    Recommend me a riffler.

I think you've confirmed my fears! The multi sets seem to be very much the thing... What alarmed me with all the ones I've seen is that the teeth are widely spaced and tall. The individuals are much more expensive, but if I can work out which ones I'll need when I do the practice pieces for...

    Recommend me a riffler.

I'm after some riffler rasps, but am a bit unsure where to go for them. I'm looking at Dictum, Tiranti and Axminster and they all seem to have decent enough products, but I'm concerned that I'll lay my money down and receive a rasp which has been inconsistently stitched, leaving small gouges...

They're handy to have about, I have 22.5°, 45° & 90° reference blocks, and am building up a collection of Ply templates for setting out complex shapes.
