Not me I'm afraid. I can't cope with the drive at the moment. Maybe I'll go to the Autumn show.

Dave

it will be great to meet you all there but I may not make the meet up at the Chestnut stand depending upon the time etc/if I can someone to watch my stand. But will try.

I would just like to add that I had a great time today. Lovely weather, a few familiar faces and a few new ones. I kept bumping into Tom (right from the start when we almost ran him over in the car park). Lots of chats with Rob, Mark Sanger and Nick from BWW.

Mark's stuff is even nicer in real life than is is in any of the photos, an engineer friend I was with turned to me and asked if he did all of the metal work as well as the turning. So Mark your work is realistic enough to fool a veteran engineer and blacksmith ;). I must confess though that I had to readjust my sense of scale, I had always assumed from the photos that Mark's pieces were much larger that they actually are. Seeing them for real made them somehow more delicate and intricate.

I was tempted by Record Power even before I went in and I was looking at the CL3 as it was at a decent price. They had sent me a spring catalog by email, and then a show specific catalog showing how much cheaper their lathes were going to be at Yandles. In the end after talking to Tom, Nick, Paul , Rob and Mark and my good lady wife I decided to go the whole hog and get the CL4 with the variable speed. Mark had even given up what looked like the only break he got that day to wander over to Record's stand with me and point out the various differences between the lathes and the good and bad points.

After much to-int and fro-ing (and shopping in other stands) I came back to find that not only had they sold all of their stock, but they had also just sold the display model :x After some conversation they suggested that if I ordered one now, they would knock another £50 off the show price and free delivery. They also threw in an adapter so that I can use the chuck from my current lathe :p IT also meant that I could get the legs which were never going to fit into the Polo with 4 people ;)

So at the end of the day I came away with an Ashley Isles spindle gouge, oval skew, end grain hollowing tool, some ferrules, some finishing oil and hard wax from Chestnut and then in 6 weeks time when the next shipment comes in I get another happy day ;)

Here we go then. My offering. I was as trigger happy as usual...

When deciding whether to go or not today, Meeting Rolly Munro before our course next week was a big plus. I wanted to get a head start on getting to know him and his style.

Here he is shaping the outside of the form with his hollowing tools. This is another aspect I want to learn next week. I do like the idea of using the tools for more than just hollowing. I've had good success on bowls with it.

He's actually got his scraping attachment on the shaft in this one. It does appear to give a smooth finish, but I'm not sure if it's an essential accessory. I'm sure he'll give us the hard sell next week.

Les was using a Weed Pot to demonstrate one of his texturing and colouring techniques. I have to get me one of these proxxons.

Really good day. Enjoyed it thoroughly. It was nice to bump into a few UKW Members too. All I managed to buy was a large 16" dia x 4" thick bubinga blank and a massur birch log. Still worth the drive tho IMO. Brilliant.

Hi Frugal, Paul, Wizer and all.

It was a great day/show. I very much enjoyed meeting all of those from the forum that attended and many other people that came to my stand to watch, ask questions and for general chit chat.

Frugal,.

Thank you for coming to introduce yourself and you will have made the right choice to go with the variable speed.

Thank you for the comments re my work.

Paul

It was great to meet you and to chat with you and Chas it was a great day. Thank you for the comments re my work. I will bring some new bits to the Bash.

Teckno-mage

It was good to meet you too and I too am looking forward to the demo. I will be adding to my demo's to not only show how to make my lidded forms but perhaps a few more blue Peter stages to show what can then be done with them for texturing and colouring, giving people options for both natural and coloured. I will have to see as there is only so much time. It was interesting throughout the two days that my coloured work was the most popular and attracted many questions and comments.

Cambournepete

It was good to meet you too. It would be a pretty plain world if we all enjoyed the same things and tastes. I hope you liked the natural lidded forms. You will see a few more of those posted in the next couple of weeks as I have a pile to finish off for outlets.

thank you also to any one that I have not mentioned, it is not due to you being insignificant more to do with the fact that I have one of the worst memories on the planet, always have done. So please do not take offence.

Take care all and hope to meet up again at various demo's and future shows. Your support at the show was very much appreciated and made my experience more rewarding.
