Who knows a bit about dahlias please?

My first tubers (which I ordered by variety) look very sorry for themselves. For some reason the suppliers (J.Parkers) didn't label the tubers, so I don't know which is what; the only descriptions are on the invoices; and not all of the tubers are listed either! Anyhow, the time has come to pot them up, and I am hoping my utility room will keep them alive until I can plant them out.

A pic when the potting is complete, if it's going to be okay to 'garden' on a a workshop forum!

Salut ,Skol, Chin-Chin and all that!

The big ones in the pics are ones my dad split up. I also bought a few extra and they look in the same state as you describe. Hopefully looks are deceiving and both yours and mine will grow into massive giants- time will tell !
I'd be interested to see how you get on with yours. I know the names of most of the ones I've planted but a few labeled from dad seem a bit vague. I'm kind of amazed how a tuber looking so dried up and withered can still produce things so huge and beautiful.

Any update with your dahlias? Some of mine are erupting shoots through the soil, other look dead....

Hi Coley.

Thanks for the post. My tubers are still in the box they came in I fear. I've had a few problems with the Missus, and on top of that I can't find anyone to mow my lawns, and relay the lawn in the back garden and dig out a new border. The dahlias were going to be the finishing touch for colour! I am heartily sick of ringing numbers on flyers, and from those little local booklets that get shoved through your door by local community centres. It seems no one wants the job.

Originally, my son was coming over to dig out the border for the dahlias, but he recently lost his job, (because of taking time off to visit me in hospital), and was busy looking for work. He has only recently found another job!

But I will have the plants in pots before the end of the month. I hope. If it doesn't work, then I start earlier in the year next time, by which time I will have a greenhouse; I hope!

Cheers and I'll keep you posted. :D

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. Hope things change for the better soon ;)
