who cut a work top wrong today

Yes i did, fitting a kitchen for a customer this week, cut sink opening ok, then cut the hob opening
600mm instead of 560mm, even checked measurements twice. Off to Howdens first thing to buy them
another one hope they stock one similar as this one was B&Q and all their stuff takes 4 weeks.
Well at least i have a very large template for the new top. First time i have done this in 26 years just
makes me look like a rite burk.
PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE AND CHEAR ME UP.

Not the only one, though mines usually shower boards.
I always cut the biggest first now so if i make a mistake i can always cut it down for some where else.
Thankfully i've not done it for a while now.

I hope howdens can match it for you.

I haven't cut a worktop wrong for a while but I have broken one this year! Cut out for hob in place, lifted the worktop into position and needed to lift one end just to bring it up level; lifted too quick and cracked the worktop at the front edge of the cut where it was only 65mm wide. Not happy

I rebated the sink cut out in my oak block work top on the wrong side!
I had to rip off the front 3 blocks and glue them on the back to save it.
Megga sweaty pits and some colourful language, before I worked out how to save it.

If you can't find a worktop with less lead time you could always try talking the client into upgrading to a bigger hob :lol: it has to happen to everyone at some point I suppose. As mistakes go it's only really a minor one when you really think about it.

My favourite saying is "I've cut it twice now and it's still too short?"

A few years back we changed out sink. The new one was an inch or so longer. It's a tiled surface and I thought that drilling through the tiles at the corners followed by a series of holes in line between the two and chip it out, job done. It was at this point I found out that the worktop under the tiles is concrete. On the second hole I hit something the masionary bit wouldn't go through? It was then I found out that not only is it concrete but it's reenforced concrete with re bars every couple of inches!

I finished up cutting the hole with an angle grinder! You had to see the mess to believe it!!! Just as well SWMBO has a sense of humour

With the worktop, you could always put a nice oak frame around the hole to make it the right size. Charge extra for the lovely fitting too :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Just an update, Howdens only stock 3M worktops this one was 3.2M so it was back in the van and into Exeter 1/2hr drive to laminates
South West who had me sorted for £113. Took me longer to collect the top than to do the cut outs. Next time it will be measure 3 times
cut once. Thanks for the reply's.
