Where Can I buy some Regular Rolled oats?

Just wondering if they are sold here in UK? I'm used to the plain simple rolled oats, and can't get on with the taste/texture of the instant oats which are shredded in really fine particles and makes the oatmeal really mushy. I have bought at least 4different varieties and all of them seems to be these pre-cooked instant oats, today went to large tesco to have a look and nothing.. all I could find was just different brands of the very finely chooped instant oats. However I saw some that were inside in some muesli that were the large simple rolled oats, so they are out there for sure...

look for scotts "old fashioned" oats. I have them from the supermarket- not all keep them but the larger stores should.

Makes loads of porridge. 1 cup of oats, 1 cup milk, 1 cup water in a bowl and in the microwave for around 8 mins. Enough for 5 of us. Bit of honey. Very cheap and fills you up unlike all the sugar laden cereals.

We use approx a 50/50 mix of Scott's traditional and Scott's old fashioned oats for morning porridge, cooked with about 2/3 milk to 1/3 water. The old fashioned on its own we find a bit thick and hard going, but the mix is just right.
Has to be Scott's though, Quaker oats just doesn't do it. And as for the ready cooked ' just add hot milk' stuff, well - not in our house.

I had porridge with a tot of whisky once when on holiday in Ireland. Superb taste for the first few mouthfuls, then it became really hard going. I find we just can't beat our own recipe, and we have it just about every morning. Making the most of cooked breakfasts is fine when on holiday but I soon get fed up of bacon etc. We never seem to tire of our porridge though.

thank you guys for answering such a weird question Will have a look at lidl once more and keep an eye for some of the brands mentioned.
Can't beat a quick bowl of oats in microwave, 4minutes to ''make'', no prep , very filling and tastes good if you got the right recipe, unfortunetely I haven't found a way yet to cook those instant oats in microwave without them tasting a bit weird and having no texture left whatsoever.

are you sure those lidl oats are just plain rolled not the finely chopped instant oats which are everywhere? Just bought some (fairly sure those are the same for 39p) and they are the instant oats :|
weird because it's written on the package - wholegrain porridge rolled oats , I think the keyword is Porridge? those who are labeled as poridge ones are those instant fine chopped ones?

It would be an expensive way of ordering oats alone but if you cook seriously there's loads of stuff there that isn't easily come by, and the spices etc. are very good, fresh and cheap.

the key phrase you need is "WHOLE ROLLED OATS" Anything with out this will be ground oatmeal - instant dust in a bag. The phrase means that it has gone through the same rolling mill process ie crushing like whoemeal flour rather than gringing between stones to dust.

Though best policy would be to move to Cupar in Fife, that's where the Scott's mill is, just a long the road from the last warranted gun and horse carriage makers. Dandy place for a fun job and the nosebag to give you the energy to do it

Hi yes, pretty sure they are what you are looking for. They even look like a rolled oat! Not the sawdust you get with the instant stuff. Makes porridge just like I got when I was a kid.

All the supermarkets do what you're looking for - just go for their top of the line jumbo rolled oats; they'll be around £1.80 for 750g.

Asda's own porridge oats are quite good. Just use less water though if you don't like 'mush'. You can also cook them for less time. I like 'em thick, and half raw. I ain't supposed to eat them at all mind, cos they make me balloon around the waist. I counter that by making them with double cream! :mrgreen:
