Hi all,

Figured there are people out there who could do with a laugh this morning...

So I've picked up a beautiful piece of yew to make a thimble display shelf for the Mother In Law's Christmas present, and the plan was to band saw it and bookmatch to make a wide enough panel.

All looked great until I cleaned up the faces and did the test fit. Not sure I can use this piece now...

😳😳😳

I see a bird diving with wings tucked in
In all seriousness I can't unsee that now and you may have just saved me here.

MIL is a serious wildlife/bird fanatic and that might just do it...

...if you can ignore the big black pair of points 2/3rds if the way up 😂😂😂

It's a sea-diving bird having just pierced into water for fish.

Those black areas are low pressure water swirls of eddy current, and the grain around the bird's head is the cavitation and boundary layer, surface friction effect.

(I know a thing or 2 about fluid dynamics and aerodynamics and flying...)

It’s for the mother in law. Go with it 😀

I know it goes against the trope but I do actually like my MIL, and she does as well (I think....) 😂

Hopefully won't have to take up Paul's offer of a seat at his Christmas day lunch though... 😳

Will definitely be using that, thanks! 👍

Definitely use it, and I hope she laughs as long as I did when I saw the spoiler.
Sorry but now I’ve seen the bird it’s just not as funny. I wouldn’t mention it! In fact definitely don’t say a word and act surprised lol.

Those are the flight feathers at the tips of the wings 😉
