I'm quite surprised you like Staind though! I was in to them back when I was a suicidal teenager a few years ago.
Try Chapter 5. I think they have gotten better and don't like their early stuff so much.

Puddle of Mudd's another name that pops up regularly among the... "older" generation...

I am the 'older geenration' I guess (44 next Tuesday), but no commercial stuff please

Got one POM, but to me it is much like Nickleback (better than Nickleback by quite a margin) - commercial pop pretending to be rock

What about Deftones?

have ot give them a try

Most played at the mo are Metallica (saw them last year at Wembley and been a fan for 20 years), Audioslave, Biffy Clyro and THE most played at the moment Institute (Gavin Rossdale from Bush)

Still love all the old rock stuff from beatles onwards through 70s and 80s

I don't know about Nickelback; I can't stand anything they've done since, but I still quite like their second album, Silver Side Up. They're another one of these bands (like Puddle of Mudd) who just seem to want to be Pearl Jam or Nirvana.

One interesting thing about PoM is that they apparently had to lose everyone bar their "frontman" (Wes Scantlin) in order to get a deal with Fred Durst's Interscope.

One name that hasn't been mentioned yet is Velvet Revolver! Haven't heard their second album (£16? No thanks!) but their first is truly awesome. You're not that old, Tony. My dad's almost 60 and he loves System of a Down!

Ian, nice to know another John Frusciante fan! :D I take it you've also heard of Ataxia and the two brilliant albums they've done, featuring John?

I'm amazed that so many people on this forum are into the same music as I am. I've said it before, but its worth repeating; I wonder if there's a link between liking good music and being creative with wood :?
In no particular order fave bands/stuff I listen to;

Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
Led Zep
Pink Floyd
ELO
Ozzy
Manic Street Preachers
All About Eve
Blue Oyster Cult
Ocean Colour Scene
UFO
Anything by Chopin, especially Nocturnes
G'n'R
Whitesnake
Focus
Herb Alpert
Jethro Tull
Uriah Heep

Went to see Whitesnake/Def Leppard a wee while ago. Completely blown away by David Coverdale's voice, he's nearly 60 and he wasn't lip-synching

Put Hate Em All cos All Sorts implied inclusion of modern bangy stuff - I like melody as well as rhythm, and some modern stuff has me itching to leave as much as soap operas and reality shows.

Indian Music for me...anyone here built a sitar...!!!
Nope - but learned tabla for a few years. Best concert I've seen was Ravi Shankar, Ala Rakha and Zakir Hussein in the Albert Hall - closely followed by Buddy Rich's last UK gig.

Stuff I listen to is mostly older.
Orchestral, from Teleman through Wagner, unspellable atonal Russians and Vaughn Williams.
Jazz from Trad, New Orleans, Swing, Manouche, Bop, Hard Bop to Fusion stuff.
Blues from Muddy Waters through Alexis Korner, Chicken Shack to Fleetwood Mac
60's wooliehead from Traffic, 3 Dog Night, Camel, Caravan, Spirit etc.
Rock from The Guess Who, BTO, Ironhorse, Union, Led Zep, Gary Moore, Foreigner, Sabbath, Metallica, Tull, Rush, Yes, Asia, Judas Priest, Gillan, Motorhead, Genesis etc - not keen on overtly pink rock, so no Queen, but yes Brian May
Goth/Misery/Ambient/World type stuff including Souxie & the Bs, Cure, Cocteaus, Dead Can Dance, Azam Ali/Vas, John McClaughlin, Japan etc
New Wave and Punk stuff Stranglers, Police, Blondie, Public Image, Tourists, Flying Lizards...

Not fond of (most) bluegrass, though I make mandolins, and enjoy the Dead. (and Humphrey and the Dumptrucks were entertaining enough)
Not really a Beetle fan. Nor Elvis.

Despise Edith Piaf about as much as Morrissey for her aural assaults.
Generally have issues with crooners or pop vocalists who think they can sing (Whinehussy, Alison Moyet, etc)

I do like Flanders and Swann. (Have Some Madeira M'Dear)

I generally get another artist's back catalogue each month (Wagner took several months!)

It's impossible for me to whittle things down to any one particular album or band...but I'm a big fan of the old school rockers such as Neil Young, Lou Reed & John Lennon.

My favourite bands of all time have got to be 2 defunct bands: The Velvet Underground & A-House (cult Irish band of the 80s & 90s).

There aren't many bands from the last 10 years to have made it into my collection, with the exception of the very excellent Arcade Fire.

I also love the Irish folk Singer Christy Moore & his old band Planxty.

I'm from Fort Worth, Texas, and was recently visiting Edinburgh. At a live music pub--Sandy Bell's--I met a local Scot who, after finding out my hometown, yelled "WILLIE NELSON!" and "BOBBY WILLIS!" the rest of the evening. I was very impressed with this man because he was dead on with his knowledge of Fort Worth music history. Willie Nelson started out as a local radio disc jockey in the late 50's and Bob WILLS started the Texas Playboys on a different radio station in Fort Worth in the 30's.
It was a great trip to a great pub.
I find it curious in the poll results that reggae only gets 1 percent approval rating. While not a big fan myself, it seems like everyone at least PRETENDS to like the stuff.
