SO hard to pick just one type. I doubt my fave types of music will get many votes in the poll.

I listen to Kiss FM on the radio, which is Dance/R&B (the modern kind)/Rap/etc This caters for most of my day-to-day needs. If you are asking me to pick artists then my fave band of all time is Jamiroquai followed by Incognito and a bit of Brand New Heavies for good measure.

My music likes are broad tho, I like that Duffy record mentioned above. Every now and then I like to see a live Jazz or Big band show. Big fan of Amy Winehouse.

Too much to list.

I realise that, and thats why I asked members to vote for their MAIN type. I mean I love soul, r&b, some of the old reggae, a few rock and roll records, some country and western, etc, etc, but IMHO the main one is Soul, and so I chose that one.

Cheers

Mike

Ok, My desert island disc would be Jamiroquai, so that would be Acid Jazz. ;)

I love many different types of music but my main area is rock (also known as Rawk!) Since the Ipod allowed me to put all my cd's on shuffle play without having to lug them with me I tend to listen to a wide range of stuff. Olly and Tony have some faves there but I like old school classic rock as well as the harder stuff. Blues, jazz (a lot of Weather report lately) Beatles (surely a genre of their own?) guitar instrumental stuff - really, anything with passion.
Sure beats listening to the radio
Philly :D

I voted reggae, however I'll just list some other stuff i listen to.

mum
aphex twin
boards of canada
ulrich scnauss
amy winehouse
amon tobin
otis redding
squarepusher
manitoba
cex
cocorosie
cylob
deerhoof
jurassic 5
dirty3
mogwai

gonna have to stop there or this post will be long..."ambient electronicishia jazz" is that a genre?

Mainly good quality "dance" music - Underworld, Chemical Brothers etc.

Cheers

I'm a big fan of the Pogues (it's all I listen to in the car) - but even as a Pogues fan,I don't know what category of music they fall in to :?
Been described at various times as punk, folk,Irish punk, cowpunk,London Irish - although they have also done ska ("a message to you Rudy" with Lynval Golding) real punk ("London's calling" with Joe Strummer),rock'n'roll (cover of the Stones "***** Tonk Women"),along with a multitude of other musical styles.

So sorry,Mike - can't find a category to pick..

Have to confess that 99% of the music I listen to is classical although Friday afternoon does require a blast of Floyd at times. My classical tastes range far and wide from Sibelius to Wagner...from Verdi to Massenet. But equally I like Jon and Vangelis, Enya, Blood Sweat and Tears, Bill Evans, Stan Kenton, Jef Neve. And others like Saoud Massi.

EDIT: now realise that Duffy has just released an LP but sadly think that, like Katy Melua, she will be a 'here today - gone tomorrow'....and just checked out Annie Lennox's latest.....aaaahh...timeless...assured..

OK,OK, I recon I must be on my own here as I like to chill out to Enya, Clannad, and Deep Forrest. I also like The Beautiful South, ELO, Genesis, The Moody Blues, and there are those odd ones that I can't really catagorise like, Kim Carnes, Carley Simon, Incantation, Chris Rea, Wings. I absolutely can't stand R&B the new rubbish or most of the junk that is in the charts now, would rather listen to a struggling band saw. :D Bit varied my taste really.

Mainly Bob Dylan or John Hiatt but I also like to blast out some Led Zepplin when I can.

You're not alone, I listen to all those too - nice to see Clannad listed, I get all wistful when I hear them as I'm always reminded of Saturday nights when I was a boy bouncing up and down with excitement watching 'Robin of Sherwood'. I wanted to be Nasir, the saracen assassin when I grew up! (instead I turned into a civil servant and support Saracens instead  ).

Rock mainly (particulalry blues influenced) from Metallica to Genesis with a lot in between. Hate charty commercial 'rock' like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc, but love Staind, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Sound Garden, Biffy Clyro, Alice in Chains, Candlebox Lost prophets, Mariilion (after Fish left), Pearl Jam, Srone temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, tool and a hundred more.....

Puddle of Mudd's another name that pops up regularly among the... "older" generation... What about Deftones? And, you might not like this last one as much as I do (most people don't!!), but I've always been in to Incubus too.

:)

Nice to see other people on here with great music taste as well :D
Apart from Genesis, love all the other bands mentioned :D

All time favourite group has got to be The Pixies and still love everything that Frank Black/Black Francis does.
Olly - love John Frusciante - have to find his solo stuff again as haven't listened to him for a while.
Listening to The Used and Billy Talent a lot at the moment - Billy Talent is on all the time in the car much to the annoyance of SWMBO :D
Also like stuff by The Maccabees, Pigeon Detectives, Dirty Pretty Things etc.

:D Oh! Give me my brass band and male voice choirs, but anything will do provided it's tuneful and not offensive to the ears. Can't stand all this discordant stuff that sounds as if the musicians/singers are on some sort of illegal substance. I prefer listening to my angle grinder to that!!!

I see what you mean, it really is impossible without pages of choices to find out exactly what other members like, but so far it has been an enjoyable eye opener to find out what others like, so keep them coming, even if you cannot find a section in the poll.

I was going through my mp3 collection last night and I suppose the only band which I like to listen to now and again, and which others may find strange because of my choice of soul etc, is Pink Floyd ( alright, alright not everyones cup of tea  ), but there is just something about some of their music that gets me.

Cheers

Mike
