I was going to upgrade my Kity 419 sometime ago to a Kity 619 but then Kity went bust.I have looked at getting a second hand one off Ebay but the good ones always fetch silly money so I was going to ask what alternatives are there that match up without spending thousands. I only want the bench if poss and am not bothered about the sliding tables some saws come with and want as much depth of cut as poss because i use saws to cut tenons for doors and windows. quality of cut is important too for cutting laminates etc, then quiet operation etc etc. Any ideas? Regards Andy.

Thanks alf, that seems reasonable if it is the actual machine that is for sale. It has the 'economy' sliding table but that doesn't matter. My only problem would be getting to buy it as i live in Kettering, northamptonshire and reckon i would have about a 6hr drive each way. Nevertheless that is exactly what i am looking for. Thanks Andy

Thanks Old, the SIP looks good but is a bit out of my price range. I am a little wary of cast iron as i know it can stain quite easily in the winter months if it is left idle, i have to be careful with my milling machine and metal lathe in that respect, but i also dislike extruded aluminium because it is draggy and wears. IMO this cast ally that Kity machines used was ideal but unfortunately it doesn't seem like you can buy an equivalent to the 619 anymore. Thanks for responses, Andy.

Hi Andy,

I have the 12" SIP and did a review here https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... sc&start=0 it is an excellent machine and has a 100mm (4") depth of cut.

As you are not interested in a sliding table you could get one for about £300 to £400 cheaper depending where you shop.

Andy,

I am a little wary of cast iron as i know it can stain quite easily in the winter months if it is left idle.

Cast iron is no problem at all as long as you look after it. Give it a coat of Liberon's Lubricating Wax which will not only protect it against rust but will also help timber glide across the table. http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... =1&jump=48

Good luck with what ever table you buy.

Cheers

Mike

Andy, I think Mike was saying £300-400 cheaper if you buy it without the sliding table, not the total. However I highly recommend the SIP 10" CI saw. You can get that new for £450 delivered. I picked a 2 year old one off ebay for £165 and it's superb. I have it on a mobile base £29 from Axminster and it's rock solid, accurate, quiet and a joy to use. Quick spray with PTFE or similar, no rust, wood glides easily.
Best of luck.

Andy, I recently upgraded from Kity 419 to the Axminster saw as this has slightly better quality build than the SIP

Tony, does it have the same good quality of cut, it seems to be similar to the perform one in their2006 catalogue. I am wary whether far eastern machines can match European ones for quality? I have had some that had appalling motors and other cheap components. I have had my Kity 419 for nearly 10yrs now and with a few mods it has been excellent for what it is. You've certainly got me thinking now though. Regards Andy

Andy,

mike, where can i find this 12" saw for £3-400. Cheers Andy

Andy as John mentions I was talking about buying one without the sliding table which West Skelston Services charge £295 for this

I notice that this is for their 10" table saw so you may save even more then £300. If you do not want the wheel kit and rear table you could save another £100, which would leave £640 delivered.

John is right you can get the 10" machine for £450, but if as you say you want as much depth of cut as possible then the 12" 4hp model may be a better way to go, it all depends how much you want that extra inch.

Cheers

Mike
