Went for an NHS colonoscopy yesterday..

Didn't happen. Doctor didn't turn up.

Ill? Nope
Accident ? Nope
Over-running in another part of the Hospital ? Nope

He was double-booked with one of his private patients.

Not impressed.

For the next 'visit' insist on Picolax preparation not Movicol (horrible stuff!).

I went to have a dodgy wisdom tooth removed under local anaesthetic. 2 nurses and a lovely orthodontic doctor who explained everything perfectly. Not the nicest operation, drill a couple of holes then put in a puller and crack, bits of tooth out!

When did this take place? Sunday 9.30 am, quiet in the hospital - Gloucester Royal Infirmary - next patient ready as I left after 45mins.

It can be done and this was part of the scheme to reduce waiting lists.

Got to sympathise with RogerS.
A few years ago my wife needed radiotherapy for lymphoma, and came across a similar problem. The "general" staff at the NHS specialist hospital were excellent - briliiant, in fact - but the expert consultant was only available one half-day a week.
It's OK to hear "any problems, just contact my secretary", but you can't help but think that your concerns might not be relayed as well by a third party.
It's enough of a worrying time , without having extras piled on top....

I loved MoviPrep. Reminded me of a cocktail...of which I can't remember. Dunno when you had yours but I did have some years ago and it was pretty dire. But holding my nose then sucking a lemon worked.

This time....yum! Maybe they've changed the formula.

You get the freezing at the same time. Was the Titanic in reality a colonoscopy cruise?

I've had a couple of them and no big deal. Better than going for root canals.

I'll second that - I have 2 impacted wisdom teeth that god forbid will ever need extraction, have had major work done on both adjacent molars and tbh they are so far back in my throat I almost gagged a couple of times and had to get the dentist to stop as I felt I was going to throw up.
An investigative colonoscopy a couple of years back was a walk in the park in comparison albeit the MoviPrep was disgusting to drink.
I remember the surgeons report contained a comment wrt the efficacy of the prep so I assume they had a clear view so to speak!

I had an amusing time on mine last year....
Having gone through the 'fun' prep of Picolax and white food, I then go to hospital for the procedure.
Having negotiated half of my colon there's a sudden hiatus and hectic scrambling with hushed voices going on in the operating room behind me. My wife is sitting waiting for me in reception and heard the nurse frantically
ringing around all the hospitals in the local area enquiring as to whether they may have a spare bulb for an endoscope!!!!!
Seems LED technology hadn't caught up with their machine
So I had to go back a couple of weeks later.....grrrrrr!

I've had a couple of colonosopies before and not a problem. Entonox Rules KO ! But as there was a total lack of empathy regarding a couple of other issues that I raised while there, I have no intention of going back.

I get them regular about every 3 years. Had the HR manager at work one time thinking I was wagging so he tried the third degree. Just what does a colonoscopy entail he asks. I say if you must know they jam about 3 meters of camera where the sun don't shine. He was somewhat taken aback and muttered really 3 meters? I replied well two and a half at least. Last time he ever crossed my path. Bigger pain than the procedure.

When I needed to book a colonoscopy the only available appointment was at 10.00 in the morning over a two-hour drive away. I wasn't going to risk driving after taking the purge so I had to find somewhere nearer the hospital to stay.
