If anybody has received a PM similar to this, especially in the wanted board:

"You must have missed the post of louis09 about 3/8" bowl gouge* for sale some days ago... I asked him about it and he said it's still available with him."

*or various other tools

Please report it ASAP

Thanks.

Just had this message from Paterickwadeson, who joined in Amsterdam two days ago. Can you delete him and his IP address?

"Hello are you still interested in getting this?
You can contact Jeff he has a Wanted Startrite 14 Bandsaw with microadjuster for sale...........PM him @ [email protected]"

Jeff must have a right ol' warehouse!
Apparently he's got my Silas Kopf marquetry DVD as well!

They must think we've fallen out of a tree....

Presuming the gmail account is checked to see if anyone's fallen for it, perhaps a few of us should anonymously email-bomb it, using different subject matters, and asking dumb questions like is it the orange one or the red variety, does it feature the quick-release sprocket, etc.

If they think there's a chance of stitching someone up, they might waste a few hours trying to reply!

Why o why do we allow scammers the pleasure/convenience of easily joining and being able to send private messages?
Sever the ability, cut out the problem.

Cozier. Trouble with your idea is we would be the ones kicked off. This is to nice a place to risk the wrath’s of the moderators

Why so?
It wouldn't involve this site/the mods one iota.
Send hundreds, perhaps thousands, of emails from any number of anonymous addresses, with a changing subject matter....anything from a car to a CD to a piece of machinery. This probably isn't the only site that's being targeted, so any item would do. All they "need" is one punter to fall for their scamming technique, so they'd likely spend time replying to "you" stating "Yes! It's exactly the colour/style/size/edition you're wanting!" and detailing some price/payment process....little suspecting that their reply simply disappears into the ether...

We don't. The forum software has a degree of automation to try and catch them and it refers a number of registration requests to the mods every day for scrutiny.
We block plenty before they ever get in, but we and the algorithms miss some of them too. It's not always obvious.
