Hi all :D

In the past, I've built a desk using two fire-doors - one for the top and the other door for the side supports. It was great but a little shaky! I didn't use the proper strength right angled supports to connect the sides to the top. That said, it stood the test of time and looked great (but I wouldn't have sat on it!).

Having recently moved house, I'm now faced with a sort of large alcove area which is only a little wider than the top of the desk. However, this time I'm going to do it properly since I've a lot of weight which will be sitting on this desk - probably close to 25kg. It'll be home to a beastly PC - with a server size case which I'd love to display on the top of the desk rather than tucking it underneath.

This time, I'd like to have it wall mounted rather than using supports to stand it up. The back wall of the desk and the left side have adequate wall which this will but up to.

So my question and plead for help is - is it possible to wall mount a desk to bear a heavy weight using only two walls for support?

I can't be of any help I'm afraid Charlie, but hello and welcome :) Hopefully one of the lads will point you in the right direction!

You can use a deep apron on the back of the desk to help stabilise the right angle joints between top and sides. The wobble is called "racking"

I have my desk in a corner so sounds similar to yours - you said you can butt up to the back and left side wall

I laminated two 4' x 2' 18mm sheets of mdf and rest this on 2" x 2" battens securely screwed to the rear and side wall. For the other side, I cut a panel from more 18mm mdf and this sits inside a groove routed in the underside of the desk with a couple of small angle brackets to stop the panel moving at the bottom

I can easily stand on this desk with zero movement so will be more than a match for your fancy dancy gaming (I bet) pc

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum
