Im removing a stud wall not the usual type the type that is wood straw sandwiched between 2 layers of cement and was wondering did they put head and foot plates in wood in this type of wall and was there a given width to the panels the wall is only 6 foot long by 8 foot high any info would be helpful.

I delved a little deeper its slab laid horizontal 4 of and its 21/2inch thick

They probably did this for cost and insulation reasons.
I saw some really strange "building" methods whilst living in UK, so this does not surprise me at all.
I wouldn't worry about why they used this design, just remove it and build a standard stud wall. Add insulation if required.

I did a bit of research in some old books i have from the 80s it a type of Stramit Plastin Easiwall compressed straw non demountable partition system , Anyway its down now the slabs were 6 foot long by 2 foot wide with 1/2 inch of morter on each side so i cut them down in 2 ft x 2ft blocks still quite heavy . They have thought up some strange systems over the years , bricks on edge between battons , terracotta hollow bricks ,plasterboard and cardboard ( i now know where Ikea got the idea for table tops from ) Thanks Sawtooth
