I'd be tempted to put the tenon back in the chuck and use the wood to make an egg cup or a small box. (if using for a box, you could maybe salvage the foot for the lid?)

My Mum's Christmas pressie resurrected from my brother's doomed goblet!!!

The lids is bit wonky in the pics as I haven't pushed down hard during varnishing.

It's going to be quite a nice firm fit tho' I say it as shouldn't.
