Anyone been watching the TT races at the Isle of Man on ITV4? It has been quite exhilerating and the sense of speed, atmosphere and slow motion camera work quite stunning. Also there was an electric motorcycle race which topped 100mph in near silence.

Mind blowing average speeds, I was fortunate enough to be there with my father in 1957 when the first 100MPH average was achieved by Bob McIntyre racing against John Surtees, my father found those speeds astounding at the time, he had been a machine road tester and race engineer for Norton in the early days.

I love the TT races and when my son went to work on IoM I went to visit him and he took me around the course in his car. I was absolutely astonished when I saw what those guys were racing through, they have nerves of steel.

Did you see Rossi in MotoGP today? That was good.

Nerves of steel and permanently clenched buttocks I would think! These are normal roads, complete with pot holes, drain covers, white lines and roadsigns. The only problem I have with it is all the idiots on new shiny R1's and CBR's trying to emulate their heros while ignoring the fact that other traffic is allowed to use the road as well and should not be treated as mobile chicanes while they blat round the Kent countryside.

Steve.

I used to court a young widow from Douglas. Her husband died in a race when his bike hit a manhole cover, lost control and he drove into a bridge parapet. She said he lived (and died) for bike racing.
Believe the course is also used by international police forces to test their new equipment. When I was there German police were testing BMW's.

I prefer the Irish road race scene, and particularly the Ulster Grand Prix.
Having come from a circuit background, I prefer the closeness of group racing than staged singular timed events.
I never had the balls to do road racing, just circuit, but A friend of mine sponsored both the Late Joey Dunlop and Richard Britton as shown below.

My TT hero's will always remain Joey D and the late David Jefferies.

Yeah, road racing here is very popular.

Most years I go to the north West 200 with my mates and, at the spot we watch at, the bikes pass us at 190mph. You could reach out and touch them, it is very scary.

I think the best racing is on the country courses like Cookstown and Tandragee but the very best must be Skerries.

Brilliant!! :D I didn't mention those places as generally unless it's a bike forum, no one has ever heard of them.

It was the Joey Dunlop video from the 70's that got me interested in racing as nipper. Superb stuff, and the Irish scene is far friendlier than anything over here. Sadly, rules and regs are spoiling it all though.

A quick link to wet your appetite  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfUzU9r-yck

This is my favourite race class though, and possibly one of the best Irish races in the history of GP250.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2vdmWEqgLQ

LOL Eddie,

You're going to have me watching Irish bike videos on YouTube all night...and I'm sure I've only watched them all about 10 times each!

Brendan

I don't know how they do it, if anything goes wrong you're straight into kerbs and walls and trees and someone's front room. Balls of steel doesn't even come close

Spectacular to watch though

Aye.. I must admit that I ended up having a bit of a late night last night!

Different venue this time, but this photo taken at Macau has always stunned me! It has to be one of my favourite circuits, which Plater and Rutter make look so easy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1CeyRY-R9I
