Hey.

I'm thinking of buying the “Trend Mortise & Tenon Jig”. Any suggestions for a net shop with nice prises?

May-Brith from Norway

Hi May-Brith,

DM-Tools have it for £149.95 (only 30 half-litres of Hansa unless its gone up even more since I was last in Norway!) although I think their postage charge for Norway will be horrendous.

Axminster Power Tools have it for £170, but their international carriage rates are excellent so it may work out cheaper overall.

Hope that helps,
Neil

Coo thats pricey for a not-very-good router add-on gadget. I'd go one step further and look at entry level morticers - much more useful.

cheers
Jacob
PS and look at all the expensive add-ons you will still need
Looks like a total rip-off.

hi may-brith
welcome to the forum
cheers mel

OMG thats twice in the same day that i beat N N with an introduction

Hi May-Brith. Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't consider the Trend M&T jig to be a "precision" tool but I guess it depends what you want it for.

I don't think D&M do export orders

Good luck
Cheers

Thank You.
Nice price. Have a nephew living in UK, it's possible I can get him to buy it, and take it to Norway at next visit.

Have You seen it in action? I have seen it in a store here in Norway, but note in use. The shop assistant ment it was a very accurate jig.

Well he would say that wouldn't he
No haven't seen it in action but as a general rule routers and there many attachments are inferior to the proper woodwork machinery alternatives. Also very expensive.
Depends on what you want to do of course but a router is far from ideal for mortices and tenons.

I have found it to be a quick and easy tool for producing matched mortices and tenons. The fact that it can also do tenons at compound angles adds to the utility. Producing tenon shoulders on the upcut is a good bonus too as it leaves the shoulders good and clean.

If you happen to be that way inclined it also does dowel holes.

The downsides are the need to purchase long series router cutters, and the slightly limited lengths of joints that it can produce, but they are long enough for most purposes.

I find you have to be very careful how you use it to get a good fit. There seems to be a little play between the bush and the slot for doing the tenons and you definitely have to be careful going around the outside of the slot to do the tenon. Its also easy to get it set up slightly of centre or off line so you need to run test pieces to get the setup and fit right.

... or maybe it's just me! :D

A decent shop made router table that cost next to nothing --would also cover the tenons,it's no big deal to get a jig book & make your own, but then theres a gizmo for everything these days.

£150 spent on a second router set up in self made table would be a lot more useful all around than an elaborate jig that does one thing, making your own jigs & ancillary equipment is what it's all about imo,you learn more this way.Making router accessories is 102 of router tech.

welcome may.

regards.

Ooo, hope no-one mentions the Leigh FMT to some of you gentlemen...

Thats the price of a table saw !!!

another thing i noticed was the price of the accessories with it--bringing the price up to $1000.
For that kind of money you can buy.
A morticer.
2 large routers
a few bits.
routing book.(jim phillips amongst many)
with these jigs --once you mess up a part from the router bit-it's all over, better to mess up a home made one & remake it.

my 2d worth.

Hi,

Just signed up to a number of forums to give some accurate information about our products and to get some feedback on your likes and dislikes.

Interesting that some people can comment on the quality or precision of a product without having either seen it in use or used it !

The M&T jig is the cheapest of it's type on the market and produces quick effective Tennons and matching Mortises and produces straight angular and compound angular mortise and tennon joints, something which is very difficult, if not impossible, to produce with a conventional mortiser.

The nearest equivalent being the Leigh one at over £600, a fantastic piece of kit in it's own right, and no that one doesn't come with the cutters either!.

If you use our products and don't like them, tell us why and we can look to improve.

If you use our products and do like them then tell us what is good and we can bear this in mind for future R&D,

HTH
