One facinating YouTuber is Dean Dohery in Co. Donegal, Ireland. He is a portable tool repairer.
Just a thought would it be worth contacting him about sources of secondhand tools.
I have a load of portable tools that need mending, following his videos is encouraging me to have a go myself!

Someone mentioned drilling the mortices, what about the Souber lock morticer. Here you could drill a mortice in both pieces and use a loose tenon .

That's a thought Spectric, I have one of those but have never thought of using it in that way, I think that is what is called lateral thinking!
