As a smoker I suppose I should say that I don't like this but it is too clever for me to do so. Is it for a specific purpose or just something you wanted to make?

Hi Pete.
I have not set out to offend anyone but i have lost a mate from cancer due to smoking an my wife Susans brother Steve is dying from throat cancer due to smoking.

Regards George

George

I know I have to stop.

This will not I guess be to many peoples taste. However you have taken something that has had an impact on you and still does and put it into an visual object.

I guess that is what art is about. But I do not want to start that debate off again as I am fed up with it.

Don't worry, I am not at all offended, like Mark I need to stop. I have to admit I like what you have done even if it does hit home but that is what I guess it's meant to do so you have succeeded

Hi George,

That is a very powerful and emotional piece of work. I think it is also a very intriguing use of images.

Whatever one thinks about it that is a very strong statement, no doubt about the message.

Personally, I like it.

Regards,
Mike C

It's very good.

Would you make one on commission? I know someone who'd probably like one as a 'conversation piece' for the surgery!

Incidentally, we lost the author Beryl Bainbridge last week to throat cancer.

I worked with her a bit in the 1980s. A more delightful person it would be hard to meet, and doing TV progs with her remains a very happy memory from a former life. BUT she chain smoked throughout her life apparently, and it was evident back then how it would end up.

What a shame. It's a horrible way to go, and not one to wish on your worst enemy.

When i read the title i thought you had had a fire in your shop
As a none smoker myself that is a very visually strong statement and piece of work George, and as mentioned should be used on display in some of the clinics/hospitals.

AAARRGGGHHHH  In the last couple of months I've slipped off the nicotene abstination wagon and back into this bad habbit of mine(had stopped for 4 years) . This makes you think and makes a very firm statement George. Not sure if it stands up as an art piece but really does get a message home.

George,

This piece strikes so many chords with me:

Funny
Serious
Strange
Beautiful
Scary
Wimsicle
Cool

I love it, I think it's an unusual piece for you and it's so refreshing to see something like this.

Believe you me, as a smoker and someone who's family disease seems to be cancer, I appreciate the seriousness of the overall sentiment, and at the same time respecting it as a piece of art too.

Great piece G.

Hi George, I really think that your piece of work is a superb hard hitting statement that should be exhibited in every doctors waiting room.

Lynda and i quit 3 years ago in January after smoking 40 year each in the April i had mild chest pains and in June 2 blood clots on my heart nearly got me but for the work of two Paramedics.I recovered but we were both pleased we had quit and should have done it sooner.

You deserve an NHS commission.
Best regards,
Ian

Hi Johnny.
I never meant it as an art piece or to preach.
I was in Mark Sangers workshop and he was smoking a roll up and i started thinking i gave it up 30 years ago in June.
All my wife Susans family are heavy smokers her mum and dad both died far to young and two of her brothers have heart problems and one is dying from throat cancer.
I was a very heavy smoker and would probably be suffering ill health now if i had carried on.
I hate smoking because i have seen the damage it can do.
As i said this was not made as a way of preaching or condeming smokers it was a reaction to circumstances.

Regards george
