These are some keyrings I made from some Mahogany given to me by someone I have never met and delivered to me by two other people who I have never met.
I have a VW campervan and the VW forum i am a member of is a very friendly place and lots of us meet up for camping or impromptu days out. Lots of the people on the forum know that I make lots of stuff from wood and quite out of the blue one of the guys who lives in the Lake District offered me some wood which he believed was Walnut. Obviously I said "yes please very much" and then started discussing online how to get the wood from the Lake District to Cambridge. Enter the other two people and between the four of us we arranged a very convoluted relay system with each person taking the wood a little bit nearer to me.
It turned out the wood wasn't Walnut after all but six big slabs of Mahogany and I've made a keyring for each of the guys as a thank you for their help.
Hopefully the picture will show but as this is my first post, anything could happen.

Very nice.

It's always nice to see pictures of others people's work.

Good for inspiration.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Hopefully you will find it as welcoming as your VW forum.

A wonderful story of how the wood finally got to you and very nice wood as well. Beautiful workmanship as well. A very warm welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum , thanks for posting your Pics , I hope you enjoy your visits here .

We all like to see other peoples work , some will be looking for idea's ,others to get new ways of cutting something .

Me , I just love looking at what beautiful pieces that you folk turn out .

Thanks for the lovely comments. Steve Goods program is a free download but you can, and I did, contribute to his site. I must have made a nearly a hundred of these keyrings and if I've sold them I charge £2 per letter.

Sandybay welcome aboard ,and I am sure you will soon find out what a very good group you have joined. It was a great way that you received the wood,I see that it was carried some distance for you.The key rings look stunning and you have made a very good job in cutting them out,and you must have had pleasure in giving the key rings to the people that moved the wood for you.I am at the moment making a couple of projects for a guy who gave me some wood,I am lucky that he only lives a couple of miles from me.

Hi Bryan, I love making thing to pay for wood rather than just using cash. When you were given your wood did you have to run the gauntlet of "I've given you wood" double entendre's.
It's nice to be on a UK based forum as most of the scrollsaw forums are American. Maybe this should be called The UK Fretwork Forum.

Sandybay I must be the most fortunate member of this group to have a limitless supply of wood at my fingertips. When I received the last supply I was told that if I needed anymore just ask.I gave Keith a fishing plaque and he was made up,at the moment I am making two musical boxes for his Mum and his wife which are almost made,I put my order into Hobby's today for the musical movements. They should be with me at the end of the week, the boxes will be finished shortly later. Will put pics on asap.
