Same here Chas but we are one step further ahead we had to go and buy the paint. It's a Hall, Stairs and Landing job,
I have convinced her that it will be better to do it when the weather is crap.

Here's praying for a long hot summer, autumn and winter.

 Vic

Are these colour charts for the paint for the latest piece of furniture which you will need some new Festool kit for ?

Well, 7 litres of paint of varying denominations later and a good tidy up, having checked all the electrics in the room whilst released for painting, door locks serviced, cupboard contents sorted etc. forgot myself and mentioned that there was a couple of spare hours in the day for once. #-o

53+ years and still make the same mistakes.

This lot later:-

Plus the delivery of spare Cabbages and Lettuce to several of the neighbours, because they will only go to waste!! I'm Not Playing Anymore.

Ive had a frustrating week too though not with painting and decorating....with broken stuff. First my sander belt snapped, then my DX motor died, then my lathe banjo out of true casting bugged me enough to replace it which I've been meaning to do for 18 months. Then I ran out of weedol with my drive looking like a jungle and am faced with buying expensive water as the modern equivalent. Then my son came close to breaking his leg, then after a successful trout fishing session on Tuesday, I cooked 3 lovely rainbows with great care...they tasted disgusting!!

I'm going back to bed!

Terrible when that happens, nothing like the taste of stale mud to enhance the flavour, might know my Son who lives in Bavaria has been gloating for the past month or more about the max size trout, (he's allowed to take 2 a day) and the fact that they are beautifully flavoured and bright pink in colour because they are feeding on an abundance of shrimp, having to smoke and consume because the freezer is full. Just hope there's some still in the freezer for when I visit.

Weed and herbicide control not a current problem, benefits of living in a farming community, and being a drop in source for Charger-Starter/electric fence units/axe-hatchet re-handling and all manor of other little 'can you do anything with this' repair jobs.

Are you saying that you can get agricultural strength weed killer Chas?? If so, can I buy some please? I had an ancient bulk batch of pre-European namby pamby legislation weedol which actually killed weeds. That ran out this week and I understand you need an agricultural licence to get the decent stuff. I flat effuse to pay 8 quid for a load of rubbish in the garden centre. I've heard brown vinegar or salt solutions work also but not tried them properly yet. I did have a bash with some salt yesterday and all the weeds now have a lovely frosting :)

Afraid the COSH regulations and handling preclude supply to domestic situations, neighbours who have appropriate safety gear and can apply as amenity grass treatment and weed control are part of the neighbourly trading. (not safe to use in knapsack sprayer)

I trade Iron Sulphate moss treatment in exchange. I buy it 25KG at a time

You need to take great care with commercial Parquet type weed control, supposed to neutralise on soil contact but over zealous/wrong concentration can persist long enough to destroy subsequent crops and the commercial cereal crop/amenity grass herbicides persist for 12 months or more* and are very dangerous to bees and water life.

*making disposal of domestic grass cuttings difficult.

We have 3/4 acre of flower gardens and lawns, soft fruit, apple, pear, plum trees, all common vegetables and some not so common. Crop yields are all excellent.

There's also a cracked concrete drive about 3 cars long where, given a chance, grass and weeds would grow.

We use no chemicals at all just the old fashioned hand-weeding. Keep on top of it and it doesn't take long.

I'm talking about weedkiller for a gravel drive there will never have anything growing on it so all the residual in the ground stuff is no worries. In fact, the longer the chemical remains active the better to be frank as that would mean fewer applications. Doing it by hand is out of the question as its too large.

.... and the contaminated water run-off, where does that go?
