With the wet weather we have been having in the West of Scotland, my garden had to take a back seat so I managed some time in the shed.

This is a Tray of Fruit I had been asked to make for someone.
I was given a teak gate rail which someone had rescued from a skip and I made this trinket box. Because the bottom and top were not made from one piece of timber I decided to add an ebony collar since the grain would not line up.

The two things I really struggle with is making fruit and making boxes. You don't seem to have any problem with either. Both look good.

Time well spent in the shed IMO havent tried fruit way beyond me I think.
Looks edible congrats. REgards Boysie

I find fruit fairly easy. I got an Andy Lodge DVD on fruit turning and that gave me the basics. What I have difficulty with is copy turning, this is why I like fruit. All the apples or pears do not have to be exactly the same. As long as they look like apples and pears you can get away with slight differences. After all real fruit in a bowl all have slight differences.

Nice Alex,

Like the footed bowl also. - But you need to explain the banana turning !

Was a bit nosey in your photobucket, and I love the pierced bowl you have in there - Very nice.

You may have variations in form between items of fruit but your attention to smooth flowing contours is good, as is your additional colouring and texturing. The box shows crisp detail and a good finish, you obviously pay a lot of attention to sharp detailing.

I got the information for turning the bananas here http://www.israelwood.org/main.asp?sel_ ... b2#topPage But I don't colour my fruit, I think if you are making wooden fruit they should still look like wood ( only a personal preference).
That link is part of an excellent link here http://www.woodturningonline.com/Turnin ... jects.html

Did you mean this bowl

This was my first attempt at piercing. I find it is very time consuming.
I am a member of Strathclyde Woodturners http://www.strathclydewoodturners.co.uk and have some pictures on that site, I am trying to link to these pictures and while I can get the link to work I cant get the next link from the thumbnail to the large picture to work. Will keep trying.

Thanks Alex,

Some great information there. His banana's certainly do look very real !

Yes that bowl. Very nice. - Iv'e been contemplating attempting some piercing myself, and been following the work of Jennie Starbuck

.......

Noted: in that case your choice of individual samples of wood and form seem to match well from what can be seen of the samples.
