If there is to be a shortage of co2 will we be going back to bar pumps that work on lifting the beer from the barrel by suction those were the days when my Chesters Mild tasted creamy and not full of gas that bloats you so there is an option to go back and save co2 for other more important uses

No reason at all why you shouldn't drink beers from a beer engine, many pubs sell it. Some use CO2 at blanket pressure on this though, so you'd better be careful.
