There is a video interview with one of my all-time heroes, Silas Kopf, on Steve Good's Scrollsaw Workshop blog here. In fact, it is more than an interview - it is a master class in marquetry.

Don't miss it!

Very interesting stuff. Shame they didn't show a finished shot of the Tulip. There's something about Neil Lamens that I find creepy. I'm glad he's across the Atlantic ;)

Nice video, many thanks Gill. I have to admit to blowing hot and cold on marquetry. That fox and hens cabinet was awful, but the understated blossoms on the top side of the unfinished cabinet was pleasing from what I could see of it. The portraits, while demonstrating high levels of skill, also left me a bit cold. Totally agree with Silas that pictures in wood (typically cut with a knife rather than a scrollsaw) don't always show marquetry off to its best either.

I also suspect I wouldn't be very good at it, but if I was to have a go I think it would have to be something subtle rather than an in your face design like the one of him bricking himself into a chimney :?

Steve.

great video Gill, never seen Mr kopf before but hope to see more, however i thought neil lamens as an interviewer was poor to say the least and should have just let the man get on with it.

I couldn't help looking at his saws. I've never seen those models before and I loved the cam action on the upper arm blade clamp.

I was surprised at how little he tilted his saw table considering the veneers are only 0.6mm. I normally tilt my table to about 35 degrees!
