Jacob what ever floats your boat if you want to hone them its a free world.A little bit off thread but as a Carpenter using a axe there is a reason I used a file because the file sharpens as it rounds into the edge and not against the edge. The reason for rounding into the edge is because when you put the edge on too straight the tool bits into the timber and you have to pull it out ,so, you will be fighting with the tool all day.
An adze is sharpened the same but I will hone it because when using it I`am looking for a more or less finished surface, but rounded into the edge for the same reason. As with a scrub plane I'm not looking for a finished surface so I don't hone .Billy.
