Rutland's have just finished their sale and my daughter Megs bought me one of these, a 165mm long rosewood bodied plane made in Hong Kong. I saw one of these at Philly's 'shop before Christmas and was quite impressed....even more so when I think that it cost less than £14...plus carriage and VAT. The A2 blade was slightly bowed in the back but 5 mins on the coarse DMT got it sorted out. Having honed it and set up the plane I tried it out on piece of interlocked rosewood with very good results. The info on the Rutland's site does say that the plane is set at 45 deg, which is wrong...its set at 60deg. It can be used in the western style (ie pushed) and I found it quite comfortable to use....nice little plane - Rob

Wish Rutlands would update their info - I checked up on the 60° angle months ago so it's not as if they don't know. I'm not sure it's an A2 blade either - think it's HSS. Amazing value though. I was tempted to get another myself, but somehow I resisted.

A great little plane and amazing value!
Have you used the "handle bar" that slides through the body? If so, how did you find it? The is a link on HNT Gordons' site on using this type of plane
Cheers

Alf...does the 'Slope' beckon.. :-k
The Slope always beckons - it's its default state of being, beckoning. You need never say "as beckoning as a beckoning thing", just "as beckoning as The Slope" and we'll all know just how beckoning that is.

Don't mind me; the medication's been delayed...

Cheers, Alf

As far as I can see, this is a Munjingfang smoother, with the blade set at 60 degrees. The blade is HSS. LV sells that plane, I think this is great value in a plane. I bought the blade and made my own body for it, preliminary resluts say that this will be a fine smoother for difficult tasks.
