That is such a nice piece of work. The "signature" is a great idea, and no doubt will appear on Antiques Roadshow in 200 years time when your great great... grandchildren take it along to show it off.

Right, managed to read it, lovely work, green eyed monster on my shoulder as I type...

I was asked to make a similar one, stable feet, and rocks from the top (an extra long 'arm'), but as the mother-to-be is picky, it's not being done - not sure if I'm happy or sad to be honest!

I adore the carvings, how long did they take? Was the walnut difficult to shape?

I think that looks wonderful. I especially like the repeated theme of the darker stripe within the lighter wood, and the proportions - ash is so strong you can use quite thin sections, which lets the piece look elegant.
