resizing photos

hi all

where and how to resize a photo.

Digital pics is it best to set a default size to resize them on the camera card , as mine when posted to the forum are far to big , or resize them on the computer software for the camera when loaded to the comp , or when there uploaded to photo bucket before i download to the forum , which would be the best and easiest to do and how is it done my camera is toshiba PDR 3310 any help here would be very much appreciated so thanks for any reply in advance . hc

You may want to crop and improve photos then resize in software then upload.

I think a lot comes down to choice of working methods and software available etc but here's how I do mine.

On my camera, Nikon D70, my image quality is set to jpeg fine so all my pics at that setting are rather large. I download them from my camera to a folder on my computer and then set about resizing, I use Adobe photoshop. Once in photoshop I always adjust any levels/exposure and do any other alterations, cropping etc and then resize to the required size and then last of all I apply a little bit of the sharpen filter to compensate for for the slight loss of quality when resizing.

As I stated at the top this is my method of doing things and at the end of the day others will probably advise differently, this works for me so I stick with it.

i understand what your saying , but when in the folder does that mean you resize each one separately , or can you set a default size that when loaded from the camera they are all adjusted to the default size then all that is required is you adjust any of the photos that may need a tweet on the image clarity . hc

The answer to all your problems is Pixresizer. It is a brilliant little bit of soft-ware that lets you resize pictures individually, or does a whole file for you in one go. It is a free download here.

Martin, check out XnView, it's a freebie, it does bulk resizing amongst other things. You can set it for landscape or portrait resizing.

If I've only got a few for this website I resize individually but if I'm doing a large amount for my fotopic aviation gallery I use the batch resize option in photoshop. I have only just discovered this useful feature through reading the online photoshop tutorials, up to then I would sit here and resize 50+ photo's individually

Must admit that photoshop took some getting used to so you may be better off with one of the free pic resizing programs like shrink pic
