Still trying some things with resin with varied results, most problems caused by my lack of colour skills
the rennie rose is one of my favourites so far, using glass paints for the translucent effect, going to do more of these I think :)
the purple sparkle resin is not so effective once lit, although it is nice, and lovely in daylight

still some perfecting of techniques to be done, but find it works best if I put a finish on the front of the wood first, as that seems to remove any risk of resin 'bleeding' near the edges of the cuts

Conclusions so far, I am rubbish at colour, so the 'solid colour' things haven't looked good so far, apart from the purple and turquoise and white butterflies which I did again, but the tealights with the glass paint in resin are fiddly - my choice of pattern, maybe should have chosen something with bigger cutouts - but very effective. :D Tried a variety of ways of final finish, and so far leaving one side slightly low ( and therefore not sanded and so stays shiny and clear) and sanding the other side and finishing with gloss lacquer is favourite for me thanks Walney col for that tip.
Have tried to leave resin slightly 'domed' but again because of the fiddly cuts, I haven't been successful with that (it works fine in bigger cutouts), also tried coating the whole thing in resin, that takes a LOT of resin so expensive option, and although it is very glossy, is also thick and susceptible to the slightest dimple or dust speck ruining the effect.
will have my first craft fair next month, so will see how they go there, but think it might be something that works well at Christmas time

oooh! that's got me thinking, how would I illuminate it? can you get wee leds with teeny batteries?
Had actually been pondering a clock with resin inlays but hadn't thought about lighting it - brilliant - even more thinking....

Sorry to interrupt - but you can get wee diode or "reed diodes" seen them used inside model building and OH gauge coaches. Think these are 1.5v had to get some long time ago to make red and green model traffic lights but available are in various colours - model shops or the inevitable ebay . Love the Kingfisher one.

thanks Fred :) sadly my lack of artistic ability has me stumped now as to design, but is in my head stored for further use (had been thinking about resin and stuff like it for about three years before I actually got round to it)
Kingfisher image originally one of Steve Good's patterns for a wall sconce
