Hi all

Hope someone can help.

We have some old pine dining chairs that have seagrass type seat bases. They have been pulled to pieces by our cats over the last 10 years or so.

I have tried to find replacements but haven't been able to. I was looking today in a local furniture shop and they had the exact same bases attached to a chair. When asked if they could sell just the bases they said no, they come imported with the bases and cannot be purchased seperately.

Any ideas? I have found places that can restore them, but this is expensive. Hoping for a relatively cheap slot in replacement. They must exist somewhere.

Hope this makes sense.

Doubt it. Most likely it is part of the chair and I don't think there is a standard size. You could learn how to weave, but the seagrass alone costs me about £20 (from here) per chair when I make them, plus an evening of weaving. The price to pay to get them repaired might start to look not so bad after the first one or two.

Thanks. They are definitely a separate part to the main chair as we have swapped them around and turned them around. Also, the ones we saw today we're identical in size to ours and would have been perfect replacements.

I would guess there is some far Eastern maunfacturer of these, but I can't seem to find them. Hence asking here.

There are a number of Youtube videos showing you how to do this yourself. It doesn't look beyond the scope of a dedicated DIYer.
