I'm trying to push my kitchen extension on a bit  so have been looking at range cookers . The best deal so far is a kenwood for £499 - £599 with the extractor and splash back . Duel fuel with two ovens , not really bothered how many burners . Anyone know of any better deals ?

Hey, if you don't cook often then a cheap range is fine. If you use more often then you will be better off saving for a better model that is more energy efficient and has better features such as self cleaning ovens and better temp regulation. Look at some of the more populat net based companies too.

Well i'm only cooking for myself most of the time so the smaller oven seems like a good idea but the bigger oven for when other people bother me  I want the range for the look of the kitchen not for practical reasons , i'll probably install a draw with a camping stove in it for my own cooking

I'd stick with the camping stove and spend the money on Festool kit. :p :p :p

If you're looking at internet suppliers, I had horrendous problems with Biasco - I won't bore you with details but it was a helluva time and effort getting a refund after two faulty items delivered. They also debit your card as soon as you place an order rather than on despatch, which seems to be typically a minimum of ten days later.

(Sorry - I've been looking for an excuse to rant about Biasco; I feel much better now!)

Hmmmm, someone mention Biasco, I have been waiting on one appliance for 2 months, my client is holding £2000 back on the job until it arrives and also Biasco will not send me a vat receipt for my whole order (£7000) until this final item is despatched, thats a lot of vat I am waiting to claim back.
Biasco- a load of rubbish, :x

Roger i'm thinking there is some kind of catch here .... like i may need a forkift truck and a low loader to transport it

I suppose it depends what you mean by range, but some advice on Smeg: from my experience steer well clear.

They are expensive and unreliable, and meant, it seems, to be displayed as design icons rather than to be used.

For instance, in the first year I had my A1.1 two oven elements went, 5 out of 6 thermocouples went and the control panel transfers peeled off. Smeg's customer services advice? "Sir, we produce excellent quality products". During the second year the commutator (main control switch) burned out, followed again by the same problem in the third year and then the fourth year.

Not only that, they tell you to wipe the stainless steel with deer skin. Deer skin for Heaven's sake. Get real

Conceptually what's the difference between deerskin for your cooker and camelia oil for your plane irons? :)

Cheers Mike

Well perhaps camelia oil is obtainable? When I asked smeg about deer skin, the snobby operand suggested I find an importer. I suggested it would be easier to go out and cull a deer or instead wait for one to get killed trying to cross the A45 between Birmingham and Coventry.

As we pay enough for this unreliable stainless steel skip, why don't they supply the otherwise unobtainable deer skin?

I could have bought a reliable clone from B & Q with a longer warranty and had cash spare for a decent table saw. :x
