I've been asked to make some radiator covers and am wondering about the best way of 'invisible mounting'

A french cleat seems to be an obvious way but will need very careful mounting to secure the top end and get the base level on the floor. It needs to be readily removed for cleaning, ideally without tools.
What is the usual method emplyed?

TIA

Bob

I use a key hole router cutting bit and a couple of mounting plates fitted to the inside of the cover.

I usually just use a small metal angle bracket in each corner, one midway along the top if its a wide rad.

I make them so the grill and its frame come off easily but the sides & top stay put

I use a french cleat . To keep it level with the floor I position the rad cover in situ mark the top with masking tape and then you can just measure down from the masking tape for the cleat position which should be parallel to the top.

cheers

The way I make rad covers allows for brackets to be fitted on the internal faces to be screwed/unscrewed to/from the wall with a long-handled screwdriver through the openings in the face of the cover.

That's what we used to do on smaller cabinets. For the very large ones we fitted the frame (sides, front and shelf support) which were normally MDF then sat the solid wood shelf on the top on dowels. The grill was sat into a lip on the front with keyhole brackets and screws at the top to allow it to be lifted out in its entirety
