Not much to say really. Pretty much exactly the same as last year (and the year before). Nothing particularly innovative. Triton had a new Mitre Saw on display, had a quick chat with Ray (Argee) who didn't know too much about it as it's very new. Always good to see Ray.

The Record power area seemed better laid out this year, Alan Holtham was busy doing his thing. Caught a glimpse of Andy King, but I'm not sure if he was there in any official capacity.

My excuse for going was to pick up an AirAce, which I did for £30. I then talked myself into a Ryobi Router (tho I was hoping to see the smaller version). A very lovely lady nearly coaxed £42 out of me for a subscription to F&C, using an AEG powered screw driver as bait. In a moment of sobriety, I realised I really didn't need a powered screw driver and hastily retreated with just this month's edition. ;)

It's always good to see things in the flesh. I had a good look at a few things that where questions in my mind. For me, it's worth the little detour on my way home from work, as is the Ally Pally show in Feb.

Anyone else been/going?

Popped in early this morning. Had a chat with Martin and Clive on the BriMarc stand and Ray on the Triton stand. Martin wasn't giving any secrets away about the new Veritas plane so we'll have to wait till Monday :(

Bought the new Trend honing guide to do bevel edge chisels. It's similar to my modified Eclipse but with a wide roller and it was £5 off at the show. Also bought John Bullar's book - 'Cabinetmaking - A Foundation Course'.

Cheers

Good point Aidan, but I really realy couldn't think of a practical use for it. Thinking about it now, maybe I should have got it and sold it on eBay

Ed, there were some deals on Bessey, but I didn't look closely. I think generally the discounts were in the 10% region. Irwin XP's where BOGOF, but then I think they are everywhere atm.

Great to see Wizer (Tom), Paul and Neil. Andy King popped by (he was just visiting this year) too. Also great to see Keith back with Brimarc this year. He doesn't look a day older than the Shepton Mallet days - amazing!

The new saw is a twin-arm sliding compound mitre jobbie, double bevel, trenching, takes a 12" blade. Came with an Oz plug on it, so couldn't try it, but it looks to be well made. We've not been advised on pricing yet - that'll be next week apparently - but it seems to be a taste of things to come.

I'm on the Ground Floor, stand 65, if you get the chance to say "Hello." :)

I would echo your comments also had detour on my way home.bought 2 Freud blades for my 10" TS. On collecting was given bag with 2 blades in it.Failed to check (my mistake) got home to find 1 10"& 1 9 1/4" !. Looks like I will be on phone to D&M.

tell us more, you can treat this as a confessional!

Cheers, Ed

A fair number of people when I walked in at noon. Record had a good show of lathes and machines but would have been nice to see a little more from the range of smaller companies. i.e Kreg had its pocket hole stuff but could have had a little more room and put out its router table range and fence/miter gauge accessories. Scheppach could have done with a little more room too at the expense of Dewalts huge areas inside and outside.

Power tools dominated for the most but a fair number of floor machines were on show. But no stall selling all bits and bobs like you get at ali pally..

I got the record BS300E for £279.95 delivered so it wasn't a bad day at all.

Slaps head

Now I re-read that I realise that I did say hello.

You or your colleague showed me round the Tritan router table and the 1400W router - not to mention the jig . I was the chap in green jacket (one of many) :D

Tintin thats quite a discount on the bandsaw, going from D&M's website, that's about 20%, do you know if they extend this discount to the larger machine?

I went lunchtime ... didn't realise it was Argee by the triton stand otherwise I would have introduced myself. Although he seemed pretty engrossed in showing off his wares.

Overall was a nice show but in general the discounts were paltry - was thinking about a Bessey quad pack but for £10 off the KR150 I felt was nowhere near enough.

Spent an age watching the Brimac guys demonstrating the Tormek T7. Now that was a good discount they were offering (£329 from £399), and I have had my eye on one of these for a while. I really can't explain what happened next, the wallet came out, card swiped and one of the units found itself in my boot travelling down the M23! Also got an axe jig and knife jig to try and justify the purchase to SWMBO

 Your wife does a lot of work with an Axe does she? :)

 She needs it to chase me back to the kitchen. Ok the knife jig then is hers ...

I'm not sure I would trust my SWMBO with the ability to create deadly sharp knives, especially after spending cash on more woodworking tools :)

Did anyone see Fein there ? I need some blades for my Multimaster might pop in on Sunday also a Makita site radio would be nice everyone else I know has one so I suppose I better get one
