Hi, Chaps

Remanufactured cartridges are a lot cheaper than branded ones, the quality is a lot better these days.
Laser printers are far more reliable than ink jets, you can leave them off for months and they print first time, no squirting lots of expensive ink into a wad of cloth for hours on end.

In 2007 I came back from a 6 month holiday and was gobsmacked when I switched on the PC and printer and the Epson printer worked perfectly and did not need to replace any cartridges (compatibles) ink jets. So you can be lucky.

Are you talking about the printer or the six month holiday?

(Not that I'm jealous. Well, maybe a little bit. ;-))

It was our last holiday at age 70 to last our lifetime.

Do not want to face International travel etc. anymore if you know what I mean. You need to be younger to get through the set up.

The toner cartridge for my HP costs £55 so I plumped for an unbranded one at £19.
The first one proved to be faulty but was replaced free of charge and is working well?

Follow up question - does anyone know of a cheaper and reliable source of toner cartridges for a Samsung CLP315W? Replacement toner for refilling (messy!) is about £35 with the reset chips; have just done this, but would be interested if anyone has a secret source of "proper" cartridges.

Oh, yes, and thanks to Sheptonphil for some excellent help via pm. A gent!

Just to update on the Epson; SSC doesn't seem to be able to cure it, so I fear it is a hardware fault. And with most of the cartridges having been changed for real Epson ones in the last couple of weeks - they alone must be worth twice the price of the d**n printer. (hammer)
