After many years of hard service the power file I inherited (not sentimentally attached, just have no idea how old it is) has finally died. I haven't stripped it down yet, but, should I fix it or replace it? If replacement then should I stick with B+D ?

No right or wrong answer but if it was mine i would at least have a peek under the covers o_O could be a easy fix :)

Always have a look at repair first, often it's just a couple of quid for brushes or a thermal fuse that's gone.
If it can't be repaired, at least you've tried not to add it to the landfill.
