Turned a base for another of my paper birds, whilst it was between centres I was thinking of how best to display the bird that is modelled to look like it's about to land, then it hit me, it's spring why not make it a nest complete with eggs, a quick jump to Google to get the egg dimensions and here we go, not sure that wood the base/nest is as i was given it by a gardener who said it was a shrubs he had removed, it's got a gorgeous purple streak in it, the eggs are Hawthorn.

View attachment 198703View attachment 198704My first attempt at a segmented turning. Segments in mahogany, walnut and lime with lime body and walnut base, black oak and rosewood separator, finished with citrus oil. Didn't quite work as planned but a good learning exercise.
Love it just hope my first at segmented turning will be good as yours

A simple crisp bowl.
Now the work shop is all back up and running I was commandeered to make a picture frame for stephs budda monks painting. So good busy on that and knocked the job out using some tianna 20250305_100717.jpgthe job left me wanting a router table but there's really no room in the workshop for one of those so its been assigned to my wish list. Some may remember this from an earlier post20250305_100305.jpg20250305_100235.jpgmy ash rope bowl which I've been using as my crisp dish. But it's really a bit on the small side.20250305_100038.jpgTo remedy this I chose the last of the Norwegian pine that had been given to me by steohs dad. Months back I had first tuned it and squirreled away on one of the shelves to dry. This piece had radail cracks a nasty horizontal crcak bit of rot spalting and loads of tear out which made it the perfect candidate for my new crisp bowl. Sharp tools slowl to medium speeds I had at it and eventually ended up with this measuring 20cm across and 10cm high.20250305_095814.jpg20250305_095907.jpg20250305_095940.jpg20250305_095746.jpg20250305_100001.jpgand as you can see it easily holds a full packet of crips. Happy bunny 😁.

Productive day today was given these cut outs to play with my turning before last Christmas. 20250305_123517.jpgand decided on two small bowls one with a lidded top, with one of the flower designs rebated into the top with a black walnut handle and the other rebated into the bowls rim, using the flower cut out as the cover itself20250305_182357.jpg20250305_182448.jpg20250305_182511.jpgI believe the handle for that was irocco but cant be certain as it was in my saved small bits box. Steph was over the moon with that one as it was a belated christmas gift.

You may not be that pleased with it, but I think it's brilliant and I believe Mondrian would have been impressed too!
