Wow those are secksyWell, I haven't turned them yet, but here's some penblanks from a spalted Quercus ilex log. I've now to go through the log pile to find the rest.

MagicTurned a base for another of my paper birds, whilst it was between centres I was thinking of how best to display the bird that is modelled to look like it's about to land, then it hit me, it's spring why not make it a nest complete with eggs, a quick jump to Google to get the egg dimensions and here we go, not sure that wood the base/nest is as i was given it by a gardener who said it was a shrubs he had removed, it's got a gorgeous purple streak in it, the eggs are Hawthorn.

Love it just hope my first at segmented turning will be good as yoursView attachment 198703View attachment 198704My first attempt at a segmented turning. Segments in mahogany, walnut and lime with lime body and walnut base, black oak and rosewood separator, finished with citrus oil. Didn't quite work as planned but a good learning exercise.
You may not be that pleased with it, but I think it's brilliant and I believe Mondrian would have been impressed too!View attachment 198703View attachment 198704My first attempt at a segmented turning.
