Ahh, I think you may have actually been right, some of it does resemble birch bark just very discoloured
I'll shut my mouth and get back in my box

Sounds good to meNo mate you keep going, did you say you some blanks to trade
If so interested an a bit of a swap
Not being very knowledgeable in the wood recognition department but id have thought that any wood from the sea would make it beach woodAhh, I think you may have actually been right, some of it does resemble birch bark just very discoloured

Yes Lime I'm almost always hereWhen I am over the chest infection we can try and make some arrangements
Was it lime
Depends how fast you want to goThis filling cracks/gaps with coffee and CA ..... nobody ever says
Decaf or reg.......lol
Ok silly over
That's what happens when you use stuff with the pith running through it.Looking good Stig, I was most concerned about the cork flying apart on you
My sea kill project has died
Whilst I still have a chest infection I took interest in my blanks today.... sad to say they are not going to be bowls the left the opening is now 1/4 inch if does not split in two I will cut in two... way to much coffee needed to fill gap. Not to mention splitting whilst at 800 rpm
Not sure if shows but right one has a V crack forming..... I don’t want to be on the receiving end of that chunk if it flys out
Stig, thought about it after posting ... will cut I think Christmas tree blanks.....
Phil. Yep I knew the risk, comes of looking at ways not to buy proper blanks lol I Just wanted to explore that avenue, I try to use reclaim wood for my projects
I've turned a few things with the pith in them, most have held together pretty well, getting the item turned and finished before the wood can move too much increases the chances of it holding together. Here’s a thought
I was looking at bowl gouge and other tool grinding/sharpening angles, as with this chest infection I am up all night
As I looked it’s made me think that I may have to regrind just about all my tools
That's a lovely result for the cork pot did you finish the inside with the same method or coat it with epoxy?Few more 6inch trees, as gorgeous as the wood is, turning it creates a huge amount of dust everywhere and no shavings just a pile of fine dust so I'm a bit happy I've used it all up. Next will be more snowmen.
Also finished the Cork mat and pallet wood blank, the resin hadn't really soaked into the Cork much and no matter how sharp I got my gouge I couldn't get a cut so ended up saturating the whole thing with CA so I could get a clean cut, have to be careful with sanding too as 180 was pulling lumps out, got it smooth and used a friction polish.

Same, used quite a lot of CA. If I do it again I'll saturate the coasters in CA before gluing them up into a blank. That's a lovely result for the cork pot did you finish the inside with the same method or coat it with epoxy?
