I posted them a couple weeks ago, I call them plumbers hammers, the one in that pic is ebony and (I think) Holly, the bigger one I did is cherry and beech, both made without adhesive using the compression olive to fit the heads just as you would if the was being used with copper pipe, the handles were turned to the exact size so i could twist them into the piece and cut a thread intonthe wood.

I've got a cheap one from Ali Express aka Amazon and an expensive one and to be honest there is very littl difference in the readings between the two, not enough to worry about in my opinion,they both read 15%.No worries. I'd love a moisture meter but the good ones seem to be fairly expensive, I need to improve my dust collection and air cleaning first, then there's a whole list of tools and stuff I need
I think tech is now getting to the point that cheap non branded items is really on par with the well known branded items . The cheap one cost me 9.99 including postage and is what I use to check my firewood delivery .

My wife has started making presents for her friends, here is the first batch.

First of two day introduction to turning with a local professional. Today was spindle work making a honey dipper out of oak and a twig vase from some lovely yew.
Back on Wednesday for bowl turning.

Watched a YouTube video by Andrew Mcarn over the weekend and decided to have a go at what he made, not sure it's as good as his but my waves edge was done by hand rather than using a rotary tool, I used a log of Mountain Ash that was so punky even once rounded it was never really balanced, even 320g sanding mesh was tearing out fibres on the white bits

I haven't posted any photos to date so I hope I don't pipper it up. This is a Brown Mallee Burl bowl I turned for a friend in Munich.

G'day Pat,
I took it up through the grits, starting at 220, 400, 600, 800, 1200 by hand at 300 rpm for around 10-15 seconds per grit. Then 1 coat of sanding sealer with a quick rub down with white 3M pad. Then I gave it 2 coats of Shellawax followed by two coatings/polishing of Henry Eckert's Wood Wax. The process probably took around 10 minutes plus drying time between coats.

Thank you very much, used shellac for the first time a short while back for a finish with a shellac based sanding sealer
was very happy with the result they provided
