A small box made form Japanese cedar (possibly) construction waste. I picked up about fifty metres of the stuff, so plenty more box making practice!

I also picked up about five metres of oak from a different construction site (now I'm quite famous locally for being the odd guy that rumages through bins on construction sites) but wanted to practice first on the cedar.

Lovely timber and lovely sharp lines on the box you made, especially impressive with wood that can be a little soft.

Nice, interesting morticer you have, can we see more of it.
Hi Duke
It’s a mortise jig for door locks but you can buy different size cutters and rods for deeper mortises

Std jig does 100mm deep
Mortises which was perfect for this job think up to 170mm deep
Comes with x3 cutters
And you can buy different adaptors for off set mortises /locks also

Thanks, I'll try to find one over here.

Bench for a slight upgrade of lathe. And to make it the right height for me. Jobs always take longer than you think. All timber I’ve been keeping because “that will get used for something”.

Splay 5 degrees sideways and fore and aft. Front rail a bit of Oak that came from a recycle yard, Rubberwood shelves from discarded furniture and scrap metal collection for added weight!

Arghh! Disaster! The base packers meant the bolts were too short, so had to part with a fiver for a length of threaded bar and some nuts. Had all the coach bolts in stock.

Well it works, but clearly needs doors! Has taken 8 days.
Nothing like a new and shiny machine. What is the turning length on your lathe Morag?

All these tidy workshops, puts mine to shame.
Anyway I have been working some spelted silver birch, after turning two bowls I noticed that the bug/wood worm had left a number of groves that came to the surface when sanding.
Well I went back used the drimmal and ground out , then filled in with epoxy mixed with the black dust
Returned when hard and a light sand

Not sure where to post this there maybe a thread already
Just spent ages, well since I posted pics, looking up health and safety data sheets on the wood finishes I have bought
Is there a thread or is it worth starting a reference page, I know some forums don’t like links being posted to the sale of products.
Ok peep/mod’s it’s ok to delete if not suited to this site....Katomi

That re turning of the spelted bowl is the first Turing for nearly two weeks, the chest infection has had my flat on my back.
So armed with a p2 grade mask I went and sorted the work shop, I popped in doors for a coffee before going to the docs for yearly jabs.....intending to get back at it after appointment.... did not happen
So today was clear up, sharpen tools and as I was in that sort of mode I addressed the fact my lathe was too high on the altered work surface. Ripped off new top, packed out difference between two surfaces then adjusted feet on lathe to ensure it was flat and did not rock. Ok it was only an inch and half lower but it’s made a heap of difference
I don’t feel that I am reaching to use the lathe_
All that remains is to refit my dust extraction hose and relocate the vac/drum
Don’t tell any one but I have plans to have a few hours making Christmas trees and attempting to make tree decorations.... bought the book now to see if my skill level has reached that required.... will post if succeed otherwise more wood for the log burner
