There are often questions posted about the toxicity of yew and it's suitability for food related items. I can't say one way or the other but it's perhaps best to err on the side of caution.

However, after being told, and following some research I've found that the flesh of the berry is edible and all the toxins are contained within the pip. If you squeeze out the pip (and make sure it's done cleanly) then the flesh is safe to eat.

I tried one yesterday and I have to say that it was delicious! I'll not be making a habit of it but I'm pleased that I've tried it.

Also, have a close look at the berry before removing the pip as they're rather beautiful.

(NB. please don't sue me if you try this and die. Research it yourself first and only try it if you're convinced that it's safe.)

You do know that the highly toxic effects followed by certain death take a full 2 days?

You do know that your meant to apologies to Yew if you cut it or work it. Seriously it's an old tale but I've heard some horror stories of Tree Surgeons taking a chain saw to them and not saying sorry and then having the chain saw bite or fall out the tree.
Thank the tree when your gobbling his berries.

Please note I am neither drunk or high on some other things.

It looks as though there's been one unfortunate side-effect - at the Harrogate show I was overcome by the urge to spend money and came away with a larger bag of stuff than I'd intended :D
