Some of you may well have seen my thread about writing a tutorial on single/3 phase motors as used in our workshops.

I need some photos to use in my write up.

I don't have any machines with high power brush motors. I hate the things but that is just my prejudice!

Please could people send me some photographs of machines such as table saws with brush motors on; ideally a view that shows the access screws for the brushes.

Please email these to bobdotminchinatntlworlddotcom

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

I gave away the table saw I had with a brushed motor, the only things I have with brushed motors are the mitre saw, routers and drills, sorry.

Same here :( , i`d gladly send you some Photos if i could Bob, as i am looking forward to your tutorial, but i`m in the same boat as Dave.

Thanks for the responses guys,

Maybe these brush motor driven machines are dying out as they deserve to!

Good Idea DW I'll look through the Axminster online manuals. Not sure if there will be any copyright issues about lifting one of their photos though.

As I'm not doing this for financial gain and I can give Axminster credit for the photo, maybe it is OK?? Anyone up to speed on copyright?

Bob

yes and no

that is yes i'm up to speed on copyright and no you cant do that - putting it on the web counts as publishing so if you use their photos without permission you will breach their copyright and they could sue you (and probably charley too) - the easiest thing would be contact them and ask for permission.

on the issue of supplying photos I wouldnt know a brushed motor if it bit me on the bum - but we have a TS200 at work - would that be brushed ? if so i can take some photos for you.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the heads up on copyright. I had rather thought that would be the case.

I've looked up the TS 200 and it has an 1100w induction motor so not the type I'm looking for but thanks for the offer.

Cheers

Bob

PS did you get my pm re my visit up to you 10 days ago? Did it give all the info you needed? If not please let me know.

Hi bob yes i got that pm, and all info required - our finance people make the mills of god look fast by comparisson , but i'll chase up your expenses today and you should get a cheque by the weekend.

perhaps if you listed some machines it would help - as its possible that other folk like me dont know the difference just by looking.

Thanks for your posts Pete,

I've just been poring over the Axminster catalogue for candidate saws just as you suggest to get model numbers.

They do seem to be rare but a couple are

Axminster BTS 10PP and Jet JTS 10

I thought most Mitre saws have brushed motors baring a few. Mine certainly does. Does it have to be on a table saw? What about a router?

You can tell by listening. Stick your ears close to it running for a couple of minutes and then walk away. Are your ears ringing? Yes? That'll be a brush motor then. Think of the sound a vacuum cleaner makes.
