I used a trowel last week, was my dad's, 1930 ish, and I am told it cost sixpence. Also used a fret saw of my FiL's from the 20's.
So my grandchildren might be using tools in the future that are over one hundred years old if there is any wood left after global warming.

I share my workshop with another cabinetmaker, and all our individual tools and machines seem to have merged into being 'the' tools.

So I guess barring a meteorite wiping us both out simultaneously, the surviving member of our association will cop the lot.

Hmmmm :-k

Otherwise, they can go to the little feller on the left.

Cheers
Brad

once you've got a smoother, jack, plane, etc why would you want another one?

Will someone please pick Waka up off the floor?

Are we the last generation to be able to work with wood ? we may only be allowed one cu.ft per lifetime ( quarter sawn not allowed). So it may not be the tools that fetch the money, it could be the wood sold on the black market

morbidity aside, fact of life is that we do drop off the face of this loverly world.

Also very often WITHOUT ANY WARNING !

I like Dunbarhamlin have gradualy made a list and the tools approx worth. It does come as a very large shock. In fact I needed a stiff shot of a malt whiskey to get over the rough estimate - over 20K !!!!!!!!!in that I only gave scrap iron value to my C.I machinery

I have at the mo , a will making over ALL my possesions to the women in my life - partner and mum.( just to cover the debts I have with them  )

ALSO, in my will I have this websaite mentioned as a place to list items when the dreaded day has come and gone so that some decent monies could be gotten for these ladies.

Well that's my cents worth,

have a great day folks.

HS back in Adam to find work. :?

You might want to know that my planes accumulation is nothing like the other 2 woodkateers.

I'd like to think my boys would have what few pieces of quality kit I've got (most of it is cr@p and won't last very long!), but at 1 and 3 years old I don't know yet whether they will:

a) be interested,
b) be total numbskulls who'd do themselves a serious mischief with something sharp.

I'll probably just make a note to point the missus towards this forum and ask for help - cheers guys! :)

Back to original thread on a serious note.
This time last year I had a mild heart attack, a warning the doctor said. I have now been diagnosed H1N1 pos. Today my first job is going to be to make an inventory of everything in the shed with cost of item at time of buying. Everything would have to go if ,God forbid, anything happens as I rent the workshop and would no longer be needed. Kids all follow other trades, their choice.

Now going back to bed, wouldn`t wish this on my worse enemy !!!

Not so Koolwabbit

I'm leaving all my Dakota items to Lurker :D

In all seriousness. If something should happen to me in the next few years, I'd hope you guys would help my missus sell my stuff as none of my friends and family really understand the value. Obviously, all the time my Dad's alive then he'd get most of the more DIY tools. When I get nearer to the obvious statistical death zone ;) I'll do a proper inventory.

This is not a bad idea from the point of view of a potential insurance claim.

Brad, Doc........

Do the words "joint & several" mean anything to you guys? :D Supposed to apply to debts..........but it seems like it also applies to tools!

Mike :D :D

Do I assume that Brad & Doc work in the same place (or just clock on etc...)
