Having different views or perspectives, even if they seem controversial, is not the making of a troll and those kind of childish accusations are causing a lot of heat and making this forum a very narrow church.

Here's some examples of the original comments that led to the "heat" Jake, all very helpful and mature of course

Thanks

So, how's it going? What's the weather like over your way? Damn nippy here I can tell you.
Anyway, must dash, things to do an all that.

Very poor underpowered sander in my experience. One sold on ebay last week for only £70 too.

Is this the sort of comment that we are disallowed from making on your for sale threads?

Maybe it was humour and I just mistook it for something else.

Cheers, Paul :D

Hi All,
Gosh, what a can of worms!

My original question was merely to ask if the moderators could clarify whether it was OK to offer tools for sale on here IF one was trading tools by way of a commercial enterprise.

Seems a reasonable request.

IF it is OK then I might have considered selling on here from time to time before going to EBay or my other outlets for my stuff.

So far as I can see, no mods have thus far commented one way or the other.

I have never offered tools on here because my personal understanding was that it was not allowed and as I often buy and sell tools of all sorts, both to fund my collection AND as a way of generating extra income, I therefore classed myself as a trader in this respect. I pay VAT on my tool transactions as I am VAT registered for other parts of my business.

I enjoy and value all aspects of being on this forum and have made good pals here and would never wish to jeopardise in any way my standing here just for a few quid.

I have absolutely ZERO problem with anyone else selling on here that is up to them. My PERSONAL opinion is that is is a good thing for one and all and indeed I have bought several items from here.

Hope this has made things a bit clearer for all.
Regards,
Martin

That's taking the mick out of Blister's attempt to silence other member's right to comment - the satire was well deserved. Heat there starts with Blister as he knows full well that he is being provocative by saying that in the light of umpteen previous threads.

That's just factual information about the relative value of the thing which may well help an under-researched forum member from spending nearly three times as much as necessary on a sander, combined with some useful info that a knowledgeable poster (with no vested interest in selling the thing) has tried the tool and thinks it is a bit lacking. (Combined with a reaction to Blister's provocative demand that no-one points out such obvious things because it might hinder his trading and reduce his healthy profit margins! )

Sorry if that doesn't help promote Blister's sale - but is that the sole purpose of this forum now?

Surely an opinion but not factual information Jake. I didn't see the Ebay item however if it was in the same condition and with the additional bobbins as well as being less than 30 minutes drive from my (The purchaser) house then maybe I got a bad deal. If as I suspect that isn't the case then the Ebay item might ultimately have worked out as more expensive. As to the useability of the sander there were opposing views from other members so I'll suck it and see.

You took an informed decision, but better you knew of the opposing views and discounted them, than some other member who is more price conscious (and had a different view on which posters have reliable opinions) buying it in ignorance.

Yes but maybe I would have given Matty's opinion more credence if it didn't have such an aggresive tone to it.
It did come across IMO as a dig rather a balanced comment.

The tone was a reaction to Blister's attempts to stop people making legitimate comments like that.

Mattty's a decent straight-up bloke with loads more hands on experience than most of us, who wouldn't make something like that up - it's his view. His view of adequate power might be higher than others who have used the Delta one but lack experience of comparators. That would have been my take - your take is up to you.

Not attempting to impugne Matty's character or experience in any way Jake, perhaps he just lacks a little of your eloquence.

At what point does one become a trader? i see various members offering tools from their personal collections/purchases at some point in time and i can see no harm in that. But when individuals start selling on a regular basis and start getting upset when others point out their opinions to a item they have for sale. It is all getting a bit too much really. If i am looking to purchase an item, then i do some research on here and other places, and i am only to glad to benefit from others thought and experiences. To see something which i have had experience of for sale then feel i cannot make a comment on it for fear of upsetting someone, does not feel right to me, i thought the aim of the forum was to help others. I guess if people do not wish to hear veiws from others, then perhaps they should confine their selling to other more appropriate sites. Or better still create a area within the forum for individuals to sell their personal items and limit the number of items can that can be sold by members who have been present on the forum for some time.

For me the irony of this particular sale and the subsequent discussion is that the item in question, according to the seller . . .

still has the grease marks on the cast iron bed . . . when you switch it on it goes round and round , and up and down

In other words it was new and when plugged in worked. Therefore any insight from people who had actually used this machine would, IMHO, have been of help to people interested in buying it.

OK so, if I may make some unhelpful and immature observations.

The 'Majority' are In favour of Blister, or anyone else :-

Selling Tools and Equipment as often as they want.

Such Sales, when posted, are not allowed comments from other Members. Actually, let me clarify, such sales are not allowed any, potentially, Negative comments from other Members; Positive comments are, of course, more than welcome.

Have I got that right?

Is this still going on.

I've been in the workshop today, doing some woodwork. Imagine that.

I spent a little time cleaning the grease marks but came inside 'cause its chilly..anyone selling a heater.

WIMP! work faster & harder!

Bob

PS do you happen to know if the bobbins for that machine are the same as the ones AXI sell for the jet/draper/sip etc oscillating sander?
I'm on the lookout for some extra ones on ebay etc to fit my SIP.

Tom, heated workshops are the way forward. That and a 18" lump of wood spinning towards you, chucking bark as it goes! 8)

Bob, I doubt very much that they would fit. It's a little difficult to explain without photos but on the SIP et al, I believe the entire bobbin screws in to a shaft driven by the motor. With the Delta though, each bobbin has a hole bored centrally through its length and this fits over a longer shaft in the machine and is secured by a bolt and washer on top.

But, then again, you're a man who knows how to work metal!

Bob I forget who it was with now but I remember having a pm conversation with a member who had just bought his Jet JBOS-5 bobbin sander and was looking for a cheaper source then Axminster. I am sure he found one too. I will have a look to see if I still have the pm's.

EDIT; Bob you are not going to believe this but the very member I was talking about is him up there ](*,) Olly come on down  I forget now did you sort out a cheaper source? I seem to remember that you were going to check with Charwood?

Cheers

Mike
