Cheers Tom! Hey...you going to Axminster Saturday?

Jim

I was thinking about it Jim, but I'm really not looking for any machinery and I was there last week sifting through the managers specials. I've just been given a couple of new woodworking toys, so believe it or not I'm not in the market for anything.

Tom is that the Axminster branch that is having special offers on Saturday? If so can anyone have a look and see if they are discounting the Axminster Plus AP4300T/1 bandsaw, or any other saw near it's spec?

Cheers

Hi All,
Just wondering what the general consensus here is regarding items for sale.
I always assumed that it was OK to post as long as it was not being done by way of commerce, ie as a tool dealer, either full or part time.
I have no problem whatsoever with any one posting anything for sale but have never done so myself as I thought it was a huge no no as far as forum rules were concerned.
Just wondering if one of the mods could clarify as I do have one or two tools that might be of interest to people if it is allowed, as seems to be the case. :?: :?:
I really am not trying to be controversial here just wondering what the deal is, or not :)
Cheers,
Martin

Certainly there has never been any hint that for sales are not allowed, indeed they're a strong point of this place. What used to be frowned on was saying here's by ebay listing however Doc did this recently without issue so maybe that rule has been relaxed a little.

Hi Martin,

As Miles has said there is no problem with a member selling things on the forum, just as long as you are not a trader.

Cheers

As per "rules" in general in life - they exist for an ultimate purpose - to manage those people and situations that disturb the harmony of the community. Therein lies the reason why they are not strictly applied because, in reality, they don't always need to be. So common sense dictates that if you play nice, be sensible, and make an overall positive contribution then most things are OK regardless of the finer detail. Act like a tit and an "undesirable" and you'll likely find yourself at the receiving end of the rules being applied.

hi promhandicam

um, :-k #-o that's strange thought i had commented on his generosity of giving it away , I don't seem to remember saying nothing about being a trader did i :?: did i reply to martin post :?: god if i did i must be getting old, I really don't remember , you feel free to correct me if i did .hc

I'd class someone who makes their living buying and selling tools as a trader.

Blister clearly has a day job as a driver and AIUI just passes on bits and pieces that come his way and does not need for his own workshop.

I understand Martin is a collector of tools who also passes on the odd item that is surplus to his collection.

Forgive me if I have this wrong.

I really can't see why this causes some members here so much of a problem.

Is Blister a tool dealer then ? I didn't realize that.

Blister is a lorry driver, the rest is unhealthy and pointless speculation and teasing. Whatever his MO it doesn't make the blindest difference to me - it's none of my business because it does not affect me. Even if he was, so what - other than a reason to bang on about the rules which, too, is a bit pointless given that he fundamentally makes a positive contribution to the forum (except the unfortunate attention he seems to attract).

As I said earlier - if you're an *rse then you'll get bashed with the rule book at the earliest opportunity. If, overall, you're giving something to the forum that is mostly well received then no need to bat an eyelid. It's why mother nature made it possible for us to shrug.
