Pete, that is SO 19th century.
Jack, again thanks, but youre suggesting I "import it in to a program and scale it" if I was that clever I would not have needed everybodys help.

I know this is difficult as I have a true short story on the subject. I had a set of model boat plans for a 1 metre boat, but the plans were 2/3 scale. I took the plan to a professional copy shop and asked for a full sized copy.
The man did a LOT of calculations, put it into the A2 plotter and printed. It was too small. he scratched his head, did a whole fresh lot of calculations, and printed a set too big.
he then called in the two other staff each with their own calculator. 15 minutes and TWO more sheets of A2 before three professionals got it right. What chance do I have?
And the cheeky people made ME pay for the wasted paper.

Andy, I am too pushed for time tonight to check out your pdf, but thanks in advance for the effort. I shall play tomorrow. (not that I consider computer stuff "playing" you understand).

To get an accurate size you need to first get rid of the background. That is where a lot of the problems are, as it is when you move the turtle it drags a white background with it and when you have been resizing the image you are in fact resizing that white box. I also got the image the same as Jack (W). I used CorelDraw X8 to remove the background and crop the image to the shell edge, I then exported it to CorelPaint so it could be saved as a JPeg

Garno, I barely understood what you wrote about what you did. Its very difficult to explain just how little I know of computer software, other than web surfing and emailing. :)

Just squeezed in time to check out Andy's afforts. He gets an A
for effort.
Spot on Andy, thanks a whole big bunch 8) 8) 8) 8)
Of course you realise now I'm going to come straight to you each time from now on? (hammer) (hammer)

Hi Bob,
My intention was to provide you with a file that you could download and which would print the turtle shell to your required dimensions of 18cms x 15 cms on an A4 piece of paper.
I don't have Windows and so did not relate how I produced the PDF. I realise I did not answer your question, but I hoped the file would at least help you to get on with your project.

I have the Acrobat program and not the free Acrobat reader program, but I imagine what I suggested will work for you if you have either of those programs (and probably others, though I have no knowledge of other 'PDF' programs).

This is what I did to achieve your desired result -
I download my PDF file from Dropbox.
I opened the file in in my PDF program.
I went to File / 'Page Setup...'
I set the page to 'A4' and the orientation to 'Landscape',
I went to File / Print...
I chose "Page scaling: None"
I clicked on 'Print'

and here is the result on an A4 piece of paper...

Strange that this seems to have awakened many an overheated brain, well mine at least. I have been trying to do this with standard MS software.
Starting with the need to get rid of the background, as mentioned above. I opened the image in MS Paint, found under Windows Accessories, and selected the required part of the image. Sadly I have not been able to accurately resize the selection. Back to it. Select the required part of the image, carefully aligning the lower and right hand edges, I dragged the selection from top left to bottom right. Crop the image. Repeat the selection from bottom right to top left but this time carefully align the upper and left hand edges. Crop again. Hey presto a legless turtle.
Under the File Tab look at properties and selecting centimetres under units read the size, width in the case of this legless turtle. Some maths, divide the required size by the width and multiply by 100. Print with that scaling on the page setup. Centering the image both horizontally and vertically.
Please tell me it works for you.

Sorry Bob, Due to me knowing very little regards woodworking it is very rare I have the chance to try and help someone in this forum. Reading back on my answer I can now see how confusing it must come across.

Good luck with the turtle, maybe next time make a dolphin :D

With the amount of brain power this has taken up, no wonder the UK is having a heat wave.

I'm very annoyed at you lot. youve put the UK temp up HIGHER than me here in Cyprus today (hammer) (hammer) (hammer) (hammer) (hammer) (hammer)

Thanks to all for your misguided efforts to educate me, but Andy managed to dumb down enough to my level and sent me an attachment that went straight to the printer. Job Done
Ta very much, lets hope this solves my turtle problem because otherwise I'm gonna bin the box and have a very unhappy granddaughter to deal with.

Christ on a bike Bob!
Get a bit of baking paper mate. Ask the Mrs. Mark your ODs ( You're a Hengineer Bob. You know what OD means. ) Fold it in half. When drawing curves turn the paper not the wrist. When it's comfortable it works. Draw the curve on one side. Draw the scales on. Draw the wee fins on. Use the transcendent mystical properties of baking paper to transfer the lines to the other half. Trace it over to regular paper then ink it and pphotocopy /scan it so you have it saved. Take a second at this point to realise the vast majority of human endeavour was managed for the very very nearly the whole entirety of human existence without computers.
(hammer)
If necessary redraw a couple of times till it looks right.
I already know you think you can't draw Bob. Its not a Renoir mate. Trust yourself mate you need to unlearn the fact 'i can't do this freehand'.
Think I'm a retired Hengineer . They ain't holding me back no more! I'm a free maaaaaaaaaaaaan...
Job's a goodun.
Best respects as always fella.

Looking forward to pics from Memzeys visit. :?

Chris,
I have a dozen computer boffins on call, why muck around with a pencil and baking paper? (hammer) (hammer) (hammer)
If I didnt ask all these damn stupid questions, think of all that knowledge that would never be shared, leaving this community isolated from each other with no mutual buffoon to scoff at (present company excepted of course) 8) 8) 8)
