I wonder if @HOJ has his/her answer?
Sort of, but still working on it.

I asked if the vendor had disclosed what the problem was with the original purchase but he didn't answer.
Sorry @artie didn't mean to ignore you, but no, they haven't come back to me, if they ever do.

There's a good chance you could clone your old hard drive onto a new SSD and it would boot, the BIOS might need a wee tinker with but I could walk you through that. Or you could just plug the old comps hard drive into one of the spare slots on the HP 800, hit F9 as it boots, then point it to the old hard drive and see if she boots. This was one of the main reasons for pointing you toward the HP 800, very very easy to work on, and capacity for 3 hard drives.
I'll take you up on that, if that's OK, be after Xmas, got some woodwork to get done in the meantime.

Quick update, there is no way I can get my already paid for Sketchup Pro or QuickBooks over to the new machine without upgrading to a subscription solution which for both of them is at least £400.00 a year at this time! I have what I need, it works, and I don't want to be held to ransom in the future.

Having thought about it I'm not keen on booting between drives even if I could fit a cloned one into the new machine to be honest, so with a bit of lateral thinking, I will keep the old machine for the 2 programmes I have, as a standalone PC, and migrate to the new machine for everything else, which I have and which I am more the pleased with @JSW .

A solution has been found for keeping one screen [shot myself in the foot] as I can toggle between 2 PC input's manually and will be going shopping for a USB/switch/kvm thing for the one mouse and keyboard option.

Just to say, thanks to all for your input, resolved.

Further update, bought a 2 port USB switch from the river co, not expected till Monday, came today, all plumbed in and does exactly what I hoped it would, happy days.
