Hi,

Some of you may remember my welcome to Bavaria snow pics Xmas.
My son has been complaining that it had not all disappeared and last Friday I reminded him that his grandmother always said it was waiting around for some more.

This lot arrived Saturday whilst he was out shopping, he was not amused.

Lovely chas. I like to look at snow. Actually the BBC news yesterday reported that Germany was in trouble, airports closed etc.

:D Lovery i do like snow, sorry chas. Are you near Birdip hill that neally always gets snow

martyn

About 7 miles south but at about the same height ASL, we avoid Birdlip (major road) if possible in bad weather and at other times because of the traffic bottleneck. Only once in 20 yrs have we been snowed in for half a day, not having to work for a crust helps now as we can just choose to look at it through the window.

Worst case in my memory was 1947 when I lived on a farm in Worcestershire, we were cut off for 14 weeks before we could get out to Ombersley for supplies. No JCB's and the like, just shovels.

Here Chas , is that the lady I was having tea with at the last Yandles show?

Our baby in 63 her fingers were so cracked with the cold and we were scraping ice off the bedroom walls. Those were the days when we were young.

Ah, those were the days

No central heating, hot water bottles, chilblains and net curtains (if you were posh) stuck to the windows with ice :(

We had to be tough in those days

Electric blankets - never really got on with them.

Far better were the bedsocks my Gran used to knit on massive (No. 0 size I think they were) knitting needles. Years later I used to wear them inside my wellington boots - no, I didn't wear the wellingtons in bed

Ah, they don't make things like they used to

The thing I miss in the cold is the wonderful patterns that the frost made as the condensation froze on the inside of my bedroom window when I was a child. \:D/

But I don't miss the cold one bit! [-(

I miss those as well dave, I had some on the windscreen of the car last week and hurried my girls out of the house to look at them..........Not sure who was the most excited ??

Hi Richard, do they still give you those bin liner things and silly hats to wear when you go out on the "Maid Of The Mist"?

Rgds

Noel

Thay give you a blue plastic poncho that's even thinner than a bin liner. The last time I was on the Maid, the wind got under my daughters poncho and blew the thing up over her head. She had on heck of a time trying to keep it down. I would have helped but I was laughing too hard(nice dad I am, eh?).

I'm that kind of father too...
I enjoyed the falls. An amazing place.

Noel

They still have the tunels but they don't go as deep as they used to due to erosion. The old barge is still on the top of the falls but there has been growing concern for a few years that it will soon let go. You wouldn't recognize the sky line anymore. There's a big casino and a bunch of new hotels up the hill from the falls. You can't go anywhere without paying at least $10(Can) just to park. Double that if you're close to the falls. I live about 30 minutes away but I only seem to get there once a year.
