Spool that is exactly what I have done and also use a clamped stop at the end of the sled travel as you think you have finished
when the cut is finished but the saw doesn't !
 
I was in the workshop today and thought of this thread.
This is my current boot-style push-stick - I use this as well as the more trad long straight one.
I just wanted to show that it needs to be long enough to keep my fingers away. The heel is great up to the last few inches before the guard, then I switch to using the toe.

Don't see the point of the sticking up handle. Over designed?
If you use the standard pattern you can do exactly the same but in one easy movement without switching or getting your hand too close.
Also they are interchangeable.
You get very used to using the standard pattern if you just stick to the one design. They make you very dexterous - handling a lot easier improves speed, quality, as well as safety.
